INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson will not coach another game for the Hoosiers, Indianapolis television station WTHR and FoxSports.com reported Thursday.

J.D. Campbell, the Indiana University director of media relations, told NBCSports.com he had no comment on the report. The university has no planned announcements on the situation yet, Campbell said.

Assistant coach Dan Dakich will take over as interim coach for the rest of the season, the TV station said.

Sampson was told Thursday morning that he would no longer be coach at Indiana, FoxSports.com reported, citing unnamed sources.

Well, at least those lovable Hoosiers won a couple for the Gypper before he got axed.

I wonder where he'll end up. Trouble seems to follow him wherever he goes, but he produces results, so some program will undoubtedly take a chance on him. My guess is a hungry mid-major somewhere in the Midwest.

Once upon a time there was an Indian warrior who was walking up the mountain. As he climbed, he came upon a snake, almost frozen in the cold.

"Dear brother, I have lost my way," said the snake, "and I am so cold. I need to get back down to the warm flat land where I live. Can you put me in your shirt and let me get warm? Then I can make it safely home again."

The Indian warrior replied, "No, snake, for you will bite me, and your bite will kill."

"You have my solemn word that I will not bite," said the snake. "Won't you please help me before I freeze to death? I promise I will not bite."

So the Indian warrior lifted the snake off the cold ground and placed it inside his shirt, close to his heart. As the snake warmed, he bit the brave warrior.

As the Indian warrior lay dying, he said to the snake, "You promised you would not bite me."

To which the snake replied, "You knew what I was when you picked me up."

The NCAA will slap Sampson with a "show-cause" tag, and no school will touch him.

I predict his next job will be as an NBA assistant.

Next job?

"Need to make a lot of calls? I do, that's why I use the new unlimited calling package from ACME Wireless"

Yep. Compare that to the attorney's fees, court costs and multimillion-dollar verdict slapped on Ohio State when they fired Jim O'Brien at about the same point.

If the contract isn't airtight, and the NCAA ultimately clears Sampson (as happened with O'Brien), the 750 would be a down payment. I don't think he'd get cleared, but he's out and won't sue. That's a good deal for IU.
