I downloaded several songs this week from iTunes and I was unable to play them on my MP3 player. I then realized that iTunes is in an AAC format, rather than MP3. Does anyone know of a program that converts from AAC to MP3 or how I could play songs downloaded from iTunes on my MP3 player without having to get an IPOD?

iTunes does the conversion when you burn the CD with iTunes. It converts them to wav files and you're set. If you really want them as MP3s, I think there's a setting in iTunes to tell it what file type you prefer. And if that doesn't work, burn them and then rip them. That also works to get around the protections on purchased music too... Not that I'd do anything like that...

Well, it's not easy. The file format isn't just AAC, it's secure AAC with encryption. First you need to break the DRM encryption, then convert from AAC to MP3. Here's an article on the encryption and the tools needed to break it:

Just search for playfair and Itunes. Playfair will break the DRM. (Note: this may not be completely legal.)

For converting the AAC format to mp3, I think the LAME encoder will do it. Look for cdex and download it.
