Thank god innovation is being rewarded by consumers. The morons at the RIAA are being proven wrong that digital distribution can actually be wildly successful.
Thank god the film/TV industry hasn't dragged their heels nearly as much as the music industry has.
Ignoring all the other reasons to hate Walmart, the company is a terrible thing for the music industry. They carry massive amounts of a TINY % of the music that's out there. They also sell CD's for a cheaper price than any independent record store could compete with.
So a lot of independent music stores have disappeared in the past decade, which doesn't really matter if your musical universe begins and ends with Toby Keith and Ashley Simpson-- Walmart will have plenty of those CD's for you at a great price! But for those of us who want to dig a little deeper and discover artists outside of the (generally dreadful) mainstream, it sucks.
It was stunning to me that one of the best-selling bands of all times, the Eagles, with a self-appointed social commentator like Don Henley, needed more money so ******* badly that they entered into an exclusive deal with Walmart. As if their record wouldn't have gotten any exposure or airplay otherwise. . . but I digress.
