It's Time for Paul to GIve a Speech on Race

For consistency's sake, I'm sure some of you would agree. The Jeremiah Wright sermons used to smear Barack Obama were not given in his name, yet many of you held him personally responsible. How is it then, that Ron Paul can receive financial renumeration for racist and anti-semitic tripe published in his name and not be held to a similar standard?

Ron Paul denies writing racially explosive commentary

USA Today

WASHINGTON — Rep. Ron Paul has tried since 2001 to disavow racist and incendiary language published in Texas newsletters that bore his name, denying he wrote them and even walking out of an interview on CNN Wednesday. But he vouched for the accuracy of the writings and admitted writing at least some of the passages when first asked about them in an interview in 1996.

Some issues of the newsletters included racist, anti-Israel or anti-gay comments, including a 1992 newsletter in which he said 95 per cent of black men in Washington “are semi-criminal or entirely criminal.” Paul told The Dallas Morning News in 1996 that the contents of his newsletters were accurate but needed to be taken in context. Wednesday, he told CNN he didn’t write the newsletters and didn’t know what was in them.

Paul, who leads polls in Iowa leading up to the caucuses there on Jan. 3, published a series of newsletters while he was out of Congress in the 1980s and 1990s called The Ron Paul Political Report, Ron Paul’s Freedom Report, The Ron Paul Survival Report and The Ron Paul Investment Letter.

In 1996, Paul told TheDallas Morning News that his comment about black men in Washington came while writing about a 1992 study by the National Centre on Incarceration and Alternatives, a criminal justice think tank in Virginia. Paul cited the study and wrote: “Given the inefficiencies of what DC laughingly calls the criminal justice system, I think we can safely assume that 95 per cent of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal.” “These aren’t my figures,” Paul told the Morning News. “That is the assumption you can gather from the report.” Nor did Paul dispute in 1996 his 1992 newsletter statement that said: “If you have ever been robbed by a black teenaged male, you know how unbelievably fleet of foot they can be.” Now, Paul says he had nothing to do with the contents of the newsletters published in his name. “Why don’t you go back and look at what I said yesterday on CNN and what I’ve said for 20-something years, 22 years ago?” Paul said on CNN Wednesday. “I didn’t write them. I disavow them. That’s it.” Paul then removed his microphone and abruptly ended the interview.

Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said the congressman was practicing medicine at the time the newsletters were published and “did not write or approve the incendiary passages and does not agree with them.” “He has, however, taken moral responsibility because they appeared under his name and slipped through under his watch,” Benton said. “They do not reflect what he believes in: liberty and dignity for all mankind. . . . Dr. Paul, renowned as a straight shooter who speaks his mind, has given literally thousands of speeches over the past 35 years, and he has never spoken such things.” Paul gave the Morning News interview in 1996 to reporter Catalina Camia, who is now a reporter for USA TODAY. “I covered Congress and the Texas delegation for The Dallas Morning News,” Camia said Wednesday. “I don’t recall the specifics of this interview. The story speaks for itself.”

The content of the newsletters was recently brought back to light in the most recent edition of The Weekly Standard. In the article, reporter James Kirkchick describes tracking down many of the newsletters at the University of Kansas and the Wisconsin Historical Society and noted that they contained few bylines, making it hard to decipher who was the author of the inflammatory writings. A 1992 newsletter about Washington referred to Martin Luther King Jr. as “the world-class philanderer who beat up his paramours.” Another newsletter about AIDS said people suffering from the disease should not be allowed to eat in restaurants “because AIDS can be transmitted by saliva,” a claim that is not supported by medical evidence. Paul is a physician. In 2001, Paul told the magazine Texas Monthly that the language in the newsletters wasn’t his, but his campaign staff told him not to say others had written it because it was “too confusing.” “I could never say this in the campaign, but those words weren’t really written by me,” he said. “It wasn’t my language at all. Other people help me with my newsletter as I travel around.” Texas Monthly said of Paul: “It is a measure of his stubbornness, determination, and ultimately his contrarian nature that, until this surprising volte-face in our interview, he had never shared this secret. It seems, in retrospect, that it would have been far, far easier to have told the truth at the time.

How can you compare America hater Jeremiah Wright who the Zero said was his mentor right up until the sermons he preached were made public with some newsletters written 20 years ago with some loose affiliation to RP? Those articles can be compared to the hate voiced by Jeremiah Wright? That **** came out in 2008, why all of a sudden is this some big revelation?

Oh I forgot he is leading in Iowa with the vote about a week away. Is this all you got on the only honest candidate statesman we have in the race? Lets go for one of the proven liars corrupt and owned slimeballs because we think we finally found a spec of dirt on RP. Whopppeeeee

Ron Paul warns of coming 'race war'

Id like for someone to cite a speech that Paul has made over the years in which he promotes anti-Semitism or racism.

A newsletter written 20 plus years ago where the author cannot be attributed is not sufficient. Ron Paul has been consistent in every interview and speech hes given on these topics.

That said, bring it up in a debate and let him answer it. Simple. He was asked about these things 4 years ago too. This is nothing new. Its not like these letters were just discovered. The media has discussed these things over the years. Its not like the Herman Cain sexual abuse stuff. This is old news, and Paul has disavowed them. You can choose to believe him or not.

That Joe Scarborough link has absolutely no substance whatsoever Roger.

Ron Paul is about as principled as you can get. His voting record and his positions are rock solid. Can you show me a single speech he has given or a single video of him speaking where he has uttered an anti-Semitic view? That is, something derogatory about Jews?

President Obama didn't preach those sermons either, but he was viciously tarred and feathered with them. Just to be clear, RP has admitted to making money from those newsletters and has been all over the place in terms of what he knew and when he knew it.

Since many cons love talking about the race card, perhaps it would be instructive if a conservative actually had something of value to say about race. There's no better time and no better person than RP.

The timing of this tells me its republicans coming up with it. Even if its liberal sources, they're being spoon fed by the skull and bones club republicans who are busy knocking out all candidates not named Mitt Romney.

For the record, I am a Ron Paul supporter.

I love all human beings, Jews and non-Jews, and want to end our subsidies of Israel and other states because our children cannot afford it.

Here's a simple explanation of WT7's fall from Popular Mechanics,The Link It's not that hard to understand and much easier to understand than a clandestine operation bringing in massive amounts of explosives for a controlled demolition.

I'll watch that in a bit...but regardless of whatever problems you have with Popular Mechanics their explanation is one developed and supported by professional engineers. Do you think they just made it up? That's not to say that the judgement of the majority makes it a correct one but it seemed very reasonable and clear to me.

Tower 7 incurred significant internal and external damage when tower 1 fail. It also caught fire. The damage to one of the main structural columns shifted the weight to the other two, which weakened by fire collapsed and resulted in the apparent vertical drop of the tower. I say apparent because damage to buildings surrounding it indicated it wasn't such a clean fall. How does that explanation defy the laws of physics?

Also assuming this was a big conspiracy, why would it be necessary to bring down a third tower? I think the first two and the pentagon were enough to get the point across. Why do something additionable that would be cause for suspicion?

Roger.... you are the one who is all over the place.

I never supported Obama... I supported Paul 4 years ago as well. So, get your facts straight, and come back and see me!

My brother is Jewish.

But on the topic of Wall Street and Jews, even you have to admit that the biggest players on Wall Street and in the Fed are Jews. That doesnt invalidate Judaism at all, but Wall Street is run by Jews and our financial system is run by Jews. You would be lying to say otherwise.

It always devolves into attacking people and calling them anti-Semites because they dont support Israel.

Unbelievable. Ron Paul wants to cut all foreign aid, and at this point, I agree completely. A lot of good our billions for 30 years did propping up Mubarak, right?

Israel doesnt need our money when we are flat broke. Flying drones over Iran and getting mad when they bring one down and wont give it back makes no sense either. Why should they? We overthrew their government, put a monarch in power, and when they overthrew him, we supported Saddam who gassed his own people.

And you say theres something wrong with me because I suggest that these people over there might not like us? Goodness.

Im not a true American because I question our silly policies and actions? That I should move away because I wont just look the other way because even though our leaders are "crooks" they are still our "crooks"???

This thread was a reasoned post about Ron Paul and questions, albeit old questions that have been asked many times, about Ron Paul's position on race.

Roger comes along and calls anyone who supports Paul an anti-Semite and somehow it turns into a 911 WTC Building 7 conversation.

Come on people.

Bevo,

Your rationalization of giving billions of US taxpayer dollars to a dictator for decades is incredible. And then Americans wonder why people in the Middle East hate us.

30 years of peace with Israel, at the expense of the people of another country. At the expense of US taxpayers. At the thought that supporting a dictator would somehow lead to democracy?
