WE HAVE NO COACH11

Next game let Brown handle the ball and play one on five.

Occasionally throw it to Hamilton to take a half court three. But, make sure the James, and Bradey, the high school AAs don't touch the ball.

If Bobby Knight has this team for three weeks they would be so much better. Barnes has not got a clue about offense nor how to coach obviously talented (Brown, Hamilton or even Bradley, who has lost all his confidence) players. How about a pass or two, maybe a pick or even a low post pick and a pass.

This team is officially done for the year!
 
Without a doubt, this is Barnes' worst year at Texas. At this point, I'm thinking he's taken us as far as he can and it might be time to start thinking of going in a different direction.
 
Our bench players look so un-interested un-inspired.

i would love to see a shot distribution chart like the one where they put a dot on the court that shows where the player took the shot. i couldnt believe that barnes had his players punch the ball into the middle when the second half began while james shot 100% from the 3 point stripe. we were 50% from teh 3 point stripe even with the late jacks taken by hamilton. barnes is insane
 
What is Rick supposed to do? Suit up and play?

I will agree, our offensive sets are non-existant. But alot of the time the guys are just standing around. At some point, they have to move around on their own...

Maybe we are just asking too much out of the youngsters and our tank is on E.

Damion cant carry the team on his back the rest of this year. You coluld tell at the end of this game he was mentally and physically drained. He has to get some sort of leadership going, call a player only meeting, and GRILL these dudes back into shape.

Theres no way he can keep doing this. It will kill him.
 
What is Barnes to do? What would Knight do.... " Brown, mame two passes before you shoot or you sit!" Hamilton, Make a pass the first three times yo get the ball, or you sit"

Teach the team how to set a screen. Demand movement.

Within three weeks Knight could turn these guys around... He knows how to coach offense.

what happened to teh pick and pop that boddicker and atchley used? james should have done that some tonight wiht the way he stroked it from the 3point line.
 
And what happened to the double screen for a shot like Abrams did a million times to lead the Big 12 in threes??? Kansas was double-teaming Dex so pass the ball and get it for an open shot. I just don't understand why Barnes is not running plays like we used to.

Does anyone think that if Bradley and Hamilton played for Kansas that they would have combined for only 3 points tonight?
 
Brown seemed to be the best guy to have the ball at the top of the key. He can create his own shot, drive inside, and dish. Could he best our best point guard?
 
I do not think there are any more words to describe how frustrating this season is. The most basketball talent we have had at this school and we are looking at an 8-9 seed (with losses to Mizzou, A&M, and Baylor on the horizon).
 
This is turning out to be one, huge under-achieving team. Dex has regressed and, with the conference tournament around the corner, we have no set starting lineup. The strong start and number 1 ranking seem like eons ago. I like Rick, but this is all on him.
 
When teams are doubling the post, someone has to cut to the basket (preferably the man whose defender went to double). This did not happen at all last night. It's simple and basic basketball. Instead we stood around the perimeter and never found the open man. I do agree that it would help to have 3 or 4 outside shooters in the game when they are doing this (like the old Rockets of with Hakeem), but that's not the only way to beat this defensive strategy. Some kind, any kind, of motion-based offense would help offset this strategy. It would also stop the 21-0 runs that take place when you run basically no offense at all, or call no set plays. This team is very frustrating to watch on the offensive end.

And I agree, with the way we run things on offense, Balbay and Mason should never be in the game at the same time. I can't believe Hamilton gets so much freedom to take bad shots without getting yanked sooner. Some of his shot attempts might as well be considered turnovers.
 
You new age guys are full of ****! A pick and roll is still the same. A good shot is still a good shot.

Knight did so much with far inferior talent at Tech.

Our team shows lack of direction. Name one player who has improved since the first 10 games. (James has stayed the same with very little support.... quite and achievement). With good coaching players improve!

Barnes may have done his worst job in 10 years.
 
Texas Longhorn fans are way too Spoiled. Horns are 19 - 5 which is not the end of the world and not terrible for any team. Longhorns lose a game in any Sport and the World has ended? I like the current coaches for Texas in all Sports.

The sky is falling. If I were picking the slotting for the Tournament, I wouldn't even put Texas in right now. They are not good enough. I don't think they'd have a chance against another top 25 team right now. It's just really hard to watch. It's a ******* train wreck.

And I don't know what the answer is. This team is a bunch of mismatched parts that do not fit together at all. We have players that play defense well, but can't shoot. Other players who can shoot but are freshmen and inconsistent and take poor shots and don't know how to pass it around, and then don't play good defense. A big man who can't do anything but dunk and can't pass out to take advantage of the double team.

Nobody can shoot free throws, which is basically like a football team playing without a kicker who can make FG's and extra pts. And I put that on Barnes. You can't recruit a roster full of bricklayers at the FT line. You think Duke would recuit this many players who can't shoot FT's? Maybe one or two guys, yeah, you let their FT shooting slide because they make up for it in other areas. But an entire roster of poor FT shooters? It's like spotting the other team 10 pts. at the start of every game.

It's embarrassing. And how this team made it to #1 is beyond me. I'm not sure we're not the worst team in the Big 12 right now.

And this is a pivotal season for Barnes. After seeing what is happening this year, those top recruits will quit coming to Texas. Maybe that's a good thing? Go back to recuiting a team of players that fit together instead of a bunch of mismatched individuals. I dunno.
