It's official Dixon changes his verbal to Baylor

I wish they could go ahead and get him enrolled there this summer. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if he weren't on the field at the game this fall.
 
I would bet the depth a safety position currently factored into this decision. You have 5 guys there right now that are sophs. Of course if he wanted to redshirt he would likely only have to wait 1 year to get a great shot a playing time.

Horns need to reload at safety position by 2011.
 
Hurts a little but we're pretty deep at the position. Best of luck in Waco Dixon. Maybe we go after Favors now? That might help with D. White...
 
Anybody thinking this doesn't hurt the Horns is wrong...Dixon's arguably the best db in Texas this year, and would have been a punishing presence at the back end of our defense.

His defection opens up a scholie to go after someone else, but I don't see another db out there, in-state anyway, that makes up for losing him to Bible aggy.
 
Hurt? Are you serious coolhorn? It doesn't hurt. It opens up a scholly this year and with the DB depth we have we'll just go after the cream of the crop at that position next year. It's not like we'll lose a few more games without this kid. Best of luck to him. It was cool he let us know this far in advance so we have time to pursue other options.
 
Precisely. We can identify a position that is maybe not quite as stacked and not quite as young. I wish we still had the young man wishing to come here but if there is a position I think we have wiggle room to where it does not impact us very much, this is it.

I would not be shocked to see a S/DB transfer out after this season, to be honest. It is that jam packed and that talented. A DB knows that if they want to play in the NFL their best chance is playing for Duane Akina.
 
No way is the 7th ranked safety in the nation the best db in Texas. This does not hurt. We are stacked at this position. Also, this was not a surprise to our staff.

My personal opinions:

Hey! Not to worry? A&M has already solved all our past defense problems, completely?

I know because our coaches are so confident we are so loaded, that they didnt even feel the need to commit any player higher than a three star on the defensive side of the ball this class?

Either that, or else we are just not worth a crap at recruiting, maybe?

Yea! I'm so glad Dixon de-committed and opened up that scholly! Hopefully the rest of our commitments will also switch - just think of all the scholarships that would open up!

Sorry to see him go, but I'm not going to sit around and mope. We've got plenty of depth there. It will be interesting to see how it plays out 3-4 years from now. It seems to have been an "instant gratification" decision on his part. Bible Aggy may be on the way up, but they still have a long way to go to get to where we are right now. Don't think they will get there in the next 5 years.
 
I'd be surprised if Briles is in Waco in five years, if he has much more success with the Bears. He could be a hot commodity in a couple of years. Just sayin'...
 
You guys with the 'bible aggy' comments... well, are... funny! I don't see anything close in Waco or at Baylor that resemble aggy!

We'll be fine. If this solidifies Baylor's ascendancy over A&M, that's okay with me.

My personal opinion...

Screw him. He gave his word, then reneged. He's scared of not getting enough playing time in Austin. We probably don't need that kind of attitude, even though it really sucks that we've now whiffed on premiere safeties in the last two classes.

I hope he spends 4 years being miserable in Waco. Since he's going to Baylor, there's a good chance that will happen. And I'll be perfectly happy if it happens.

The Mack Brown curse will probably take care of him in any case.

I just hope our coaches can keep the vultures off our other recruits from here on out. This is the only downside of our focus on hyper-aggressive early recruiting. Hopefully, our staff has a plan to readjust to these tactics.
 
Of course all the idiots on the Bearfans board are gloating over Dixon.
Just another kid who will learn the hard way that baylor is not the next national power in football and will never be. I have seen this type of false promise at baylor for many years now, it never gets old.
