but still gives me chills to watch it!
The Link

Probably the most electric moment during my time at UT. I was standing in the end zone about 10 yards from this catch and I can honestly say I have never heard it louder in the Cotton Bowl.

Was that Oscar Giles making the sack on the last play of the game? Definitely was a DE, and it sure looked like #95 to me. If so, nice tie-in to the current program.

Prod,

I remember that catch as well.

For an absolute contrast, watching Limus make the catch "at the shoe....at night"......sure had a quieting effect on all the bucknuts. We made all the noise we could, but no comparison to the okie outcome with Walker.

It was the first OU game that I took my girlfriend (who would eventually be become my wife). The 80s had been pretty rough time in the series. I hoped that UT would make a good showing.

We were on the aisle (maybe section 10 or 11) that lined up with goal line. So, we had a perfect angle as Walker hauled in the catch. I felt a huge sigh of relief that we had finally won. Of course, it was the start of a great run under Gardere.

Thanks for the memories.

I love loud stadiums. I'd have loved to have been on the Texas side of the stands that day.

On another note, I'm making it a must for me to somehow go to a Red River Shootout before my life is over. Aside from each and every game the Huskers play, that is one of my 3 favorite college games of the year. Somehow, I hope I get that opportunity.

Holy, Hanna, so was I! About 10 rows from the top. Sat in almost the exact same spot the next year when Cash caught the game winner. The best part for me? The plane ride back to oklahoma and getting the pilot (both years) to play my walkman with "Texas Fight" over the ic! SO MUCH FUN!

Hook'em!

I was about 25 rows up, and it was definitely electric. To beat OU for the first time since 1983 with a last-minute touchdown? You can't ask for a much more exciting moment than that. (Plus, I think we were heavy underdogs going in.)

I attended UT from Fall 1984 through Spring 1988, and our record against OU and A&M was 0-9-1 during that time period. So, as a brand new alum, this victory meant so much to me.

Same DB Franks gets beat next year by Keith Cash on a 4th down pass late. That was loudest I had heard until Ricky's run at DKR in 98 to break record.

had to watch that one on TV.

Very good entry.

I still gotta go with EVERY Longhorn fan singing the Eyes of Texas at the top of their lungs in the Rose Bowl as the most memorable and loudest thing I have ever heard a Longhorn crowd do.

I didn't start going to the RRS until 1992, so I can't say either way about the noise after the Walker TD, but probably the loudest I've ever heard a UT crowd at an OU game is either this The Link or this The Link (right click, save as)

And the obligatory UH game back in 89 or 90....that was the loudest I have ever heard Memorial Stadium.....until next year's Arkansas game.

Great memories! Thanks for sharing. One never gets tired of seeing these over and over again.

The Worster hell-bent-for-leather, running backwards in last minute TD in '68 was equally loud and probably more dramatic.
The Sooner players on the field looked as if they'd been pole-axed.

My first OU game was 1989. It was awesome. I don't think I slept at all that night.

That Stonie tackle will always be one of my favorite plays. Our seats were on the goal line about 3 rows up. We couldn't see stuff that happened on the far end of the field because of the angle. But that played happened right in front of us.

Loved the link. Loved even more the link on the youtube page to Stonie Clark's game saving tackle. That was the first UT game I ever watched as a kid (both of my parent were Arizona grads and I didn't move to Texas for a couple more years). I remember my dad turning on the game and for some reason I just had to root for UT and I was jumping up and down when Stonie crushed Allen. Also the first time I ever heard the most beautiful cheer in the world, "OU Sucks."

If someone can explain how to convert a VHS into a youtube video--and it is not too hard or expensive--,I'll gladly do it. I own some really great Texas games on VHS.

The following is a non-exhaustive list:
1963 Texas v. Navy in Cotton Bowl (scouting video w/ close angles & no audio but not too bad either).
1969 Texas v. Ark
1989 TX v. OU
1990 TX v. aTm--stuff Ag two point conversion for the win
1995 TX v. UVA--TX Dawson field goal at the gun to win
1996 TX v NU Big XII
1998 TX v. aTM --Ricky Runs
1998 TX v. NU--break NU all time home win streak
1998 TX v. ISU --Kris Stockton field goal at the gun to win
1998 TX v. OU--Ricky's Doak Walker game
1999 TX v. Miss. St Cotton Bowl--Jackie Sherrill beatdown
2003 TX v. LSU Cotton Bowl--Roy Williams goes bezerk
