Yeah, we got a great class. But let's be honest, it was more exciting/fun when we were getting the top players in the country.

Aaron Williams, DJ Monroe, Desean Hales, Dan Buckner and Jarvis Humphrey are all National Top 100 recruits. Not to mention 11 of our 20 signees are National Top 250 players according to Rivals. I'd say these guys were part of the group you would consider "top players in the country."

06 and 07 were top 5 classes. Combine those with 08 and we have the talent/depth to compete for a national title the next two years.

Just when were we getting the top players in the country when they were not in the State of Texas? Sure, we got one here and there but never did we get, say, 3 of the top 5 out of state.

You may want to look at our class, their rankings and their abilities v. what we need and I think you will like what you see, provided you can analyze this.

loop, that's one thing I do not like about this class. Nine RBs and WRs seems a little excessive. Are some of them expected to move DB or LB?

Very good question. I guess on paper some could be "tweeners". We'll see. I am sure there is method behind what may be deemed madness by some. Our staff is far better at recruiting than I am even on their worst day with me at my best. So I defer.

Will circle get the square? We'll see.

I need to go and double check who will be on campus early, er, who is already here, and will be competing in the Spring Jamboree. What positions are they cross training in, how much muscle or weight are they adding or losing, things like that.

You do realize recruiting rankings are OPINIONS...right? The difference between 4 and 5 *s is, in most cases, negligible.

Some of these "can't miss" 5*s will never see the field...some of these "spare" 3*s will be playing on Sundays.

Rankings are a nice guide but the blood suckers that run these recruiting sites have lemmings believing they are experts beyond reproach and that's simply ********.

And Florida and SC are top 5 each of the last three years... but we have more players form Texas and our glasses are orange colored.

Hester, that bad *** RB for LSU was a 2 star recruit.

We got one of the best kickers out there, but they dont give kickers a lot of high star rankings, so despite the fact that he is one of the best, it doesn't look great on paper.

Robert Timmons, Andre Jones, Marquis Carpenter, and many more... 5 stars that signed letters of intent that didnt make it for one reason or another... I'd rather have a 4 star like Limas Sweed or Jamaal Charles than someone that doesn't even get to contribute.

Losing all the top talent to OU in this recruiting class stings quite a bit, but we have to keep in mind there are facts out there that might indicate that they weren't going to work out here. Only 5-20 people know what really went down with Jermie Calhoun not being heavily recruited by Mack and staff. Chances are it worked out well for both of us. The other guys, well who knows?

09' could be the best class we ever sign and it might only be 15-20 recruits. Our class this year gives us quality players and provides good depth, and like Mack said in the press conference, these guys wanted to come here bad. This may help with the lack of responsibility some of our J'marcus Webb and Dre Jones types that we simply can't afford to have on our team anymore.

This is a solid class, and despite not really signing anyone since August, it was still a fun and wild ride.

If this is UT's down year then I will take it and be very happy about it. As others have mentioned the talent in this class, the # of top 100 and top 250 players. Some of the top players at their individual positions within the state of Texas. Yes we missed out at DE. Yes we missed out at QB. Yes we missed out at a top top rated RB. However, with the classes we got in 06/07 and the expected huge class coming in 09, if this is the down year then we are looking pretty darned good.

I hope we get some real playmakers though in the 09 class that can come in and make a difference on the field right away. 09 and 10 are years that I expect the Texas talent to peak again and for UT to have a real shot a winning a championship if things fall into place.
