It is November people

That's Right

It is only November and I can't count how many threads there are on this board about AJ being a hopeless failure, we have no offense, losing DJ will kill this team, negative crap, negative crap, blah blah blah.

It is November people. November. All we have done thus far is pile up double digit wins to go with a one point loss to a top 10 team. And the thing is, you guys are right, we have not been playing particularly well, we have a ton of room to improve, and we must if we want to do anything significant this season.

That being said, I fail to see how some of you can be "worried" about these shortcomings. Is as if you've never seen a Rick Barnes team. Let me be as clear as I can about this: Rick Barnes is one of the premier coaches in the country. It is not uncommon for teams to not look great early. This team has done pretty damn well thus far when considering that we have come noweher close to having a complete game.

When you lose your All-American point guard of the year who is doing pretty damn well as an NBA lottery pick, then yes, you will struggle early. We are trying to find our identity right now. It's as if some of you think that the team we see now will be the same team we see in February, March, and April. Not only do we have guys who are getting more PT than they ever have, but we have established guys like Mason and Damion learning new roles.

People, the panic and worry is uneccesary. We have played what, 5 or 6 games? This team will be a force to be reckoned with come tournament time, and all of this worrying and hand wringing makes no sense to me.

I've followed each of Rick Barnes' teams very closely over his tenure at Texas. I hope I'm wrong, but I think this may be the worst team he has fielded at Texas. I realize it is November (early December) and we still don't know much about Ward and Balbay, but I just don't see us being a top 10 team by the end of the season. If I had to take a guess, we'll be ranked somewhere between 18 - 22 at the end of the season.

Stuck-

I think you are absolutely crazy. I think this team is goign to coast to a big 12 title and will be in the discussion for a 1 or 2 seed.

This team is really freaking good (or will be when they get it all together).

I think we beat UCLA big time, I like us at the garden and I like us to go 1-1 v msu and wiscy. And then 15-1 or some such. I really think this team goes into the big 12 tourney with at most 5 losses. And by february we are going to be looking like a well oiled machine.

Feel free to save this post and put it back on me if I'm a shameless homer. But I like this team a whole heck of a lot.

HAHAHA. That's honestly hilarious that this is your POV GHG. Well, I guess either you have no faith in Rick, or you will be the President of the Rick Barnes for National Coach of the Year Club come April when our players actually have improved, since most of these problems "definitely won't chnage".

Great win last nite over a Top Ten team. But you would not know it, by all the negative post on this board. We must remember its only December. If you are a true fan you would not be so negative on this board. Be grateful for the good game they played. We must remember individuals win games. Teams win Championship. As a team we look good.We are in the Top Ten year in and year out. What more can you ask for.The fans were great last nite.Keep up the good job mens.

All of you doomsday people seem like you've never seen a Rick Barnes team. He is a master coach and always seems to get the most out of his players. When guys come play for him they continually improve, and if the don't (i.e. Mike Williams), they go somewhere else. I just can't understand this point of view y'all have, as if what you see in early december is what you get in late March. If Rick Barnes' teams weren't capable of improving between November and March, then I don't think Rick Barnes wwould be our coach any more.
Our guys will improve and we will be a badass team at the end of the year barring injury.

this team is clearly better than some of the early Barnes teams.

in many ways, it's reminding me of the team that immediately followed TJ. we made the sweet 16 that year and barely missed the elite 8 (regrettable loss to Xavier that got Matta the OSU gig).

while we're devoid of a true superstar, I think the nucleus of AJ, James, Atchley, Mason & Johnson is very strong. our non-conf schedule is ridiculous. the big 12 sched won't be as tough this year. I have a hard time believing that OU leaped us. we might actually get our conf title this year.

at this point, I think we look like a have a good chance to make the sweet 16 and possibly beyond.
