it is broken: 90% no show to hearings

What is the fix for this situation when 90%, even if it was 20 or 30% it would be broken, don't show for the hearings?

The system is a joke. Why would they go to their hearings? It's virtually never in their best interests to go.

That's a lot of democrats and permanent damage to our nation.

And nothing will be done about it. Just the way both parties want it. Not in either parties best interest to "fix it". We The People have no representation.

Oh, and no, the ballot box will be of no help!

For those of you ( and you know who you are ) who are always on here posting the Republicans won't vote for stricter hiring practices since Republicans want cheap labor

maybe you can explain why the Senate Republicans tried to get a bill(the Accountability Through Electronic Verification Act, sponsored by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa.) That bill would require companies to verify whether possible employees are legally able to work in the country.) passed today and the Dems blocked it
BTW the House has already passed a similar bill.

So I guess at least the Senate Pubs and House Pubs disagree with you people who say Republicans won't support stricter hiring enforcement

Larry T'
both Senator Cruz and Cornyn voted for this

and the texas lege tried to do something similar in state.
a few( IIRC12- 15) Pub slined up with Dems to block it
the good news is at least 4 of those 15 have been voted out of office and another 2 retired
so that hiring verification bill should pass next session

edit to add
Larry T you weren't one of the ones I was thinking always saying no Repubs will try to enforce employee verification

Just curious...what penalties were in the proposed legislation for employers that didn't use e-verify processes? Keep in mind, any government contractor already is required to use E-Verify. That is most major companies. Unfortunately, most of the e-verify process puts the onus on the companies to recognize a fraudulent SSN or Greencard. Of course, it's not the large government contractors that are the problem. You know...Starbucks, Microsoft, HP etc. They aren't hiring the illegal immigrants. It's the construction companies, landscapers, manufacturing that skirt the edges of the process that more legislation isn't going to fix.

I'd wager a close read of that Republican sponsored legislation includes some mighty wide exceptions/loopholes but that's just a guess.

Just curios
so if this act had really stringent penalties for employees who frauded the system as well as stringent penalties who were caught not using the system you'd be for it?

so you'd be for no illegals getting hired anywhere and if caught they'd be deported( entire illegal families ). No 3-5year wait in a detention facility wearing tighty whities WE paid for?

Haven't I read you post that republicans will not vote for tougher employer sanctions because Republicans want cheap labor?
Now that they have voted for it you change your lines?
if something never gets voted for how ill it even pass?

and I am not saying you are wrong but where in that act did it exclude construction>

husker
the fines are significantly higher is Grassely's act. from $250.00 to a minimum of $2500.00 and with repeated abuse the amount goes up.
I don't think there is jail time but there should be.
At least this is a start.

Republicans are very willing to vote for legislation as long as it's not meaningful. They aren't going to throw their biggest donors under the bus and make them hire citizens/legal residents that they will have to pay more, insure, and will probably be less efficient employees.

All they want to do is play both sides of the issue by convincing you that they are going to do something about illegal immigration then turn around and tell business leaders the exact opposite behind closed doors. They keep you on the hook by voting for bills with massive loopholes written by the industry or by voting for stuff that will never pass and pointing their finger at the democrats and blaming them.

I think you should amend your view to "some Republicans"
won't vote for any meaningful lege to penalize companies who hire illegals instead of citizens
If you pay attention you will notice many of the newer Pubs actually are serious abut employer sanctions
and with the job market the way it is and the way it is going to be some Pub Pols understand the old ways need to change..
And Pub Pols see that even with all the money in the world( see Cantor) those dollar bills can't actually vote on election day
But disgruntled citizens who see jobs going to illegals can and did vote.

I guess Eric Cantor forgot to put on his kabuki theater.

Like it or not the attitude of many of the people is changing and people are becoming more aware.
This isn't bad.

Yes ,adding to that point is NOT enforcing will cost us more.

There was a Townhall meeting with state legislators including Dems, head of DPS, head of Texas Rangers( real Rangers) head of national guard and people from 2 valley hospitals ( which will upset Husker no end as neither of them are right wing bloggers)

The problem is so massive and complex people who don't live here can't imagine.
There is the huge and growing problem of children coming in( btw I didn't know that about 25% of the ones so far are actually from Mexico ,media has been spinning this as all from central America)
The Border agents are so overwhelmed that is all they have time to do, which plays into the drug cartels' hands and they are using that distraction to get adults and weapons in in greater numbers than ever before.
People are just walking across or wading across and giving themselves up to anyone they see. Restaurants in McAllen say people have waded into their places and given themselves up.
Of course the criminals and people sneaking weapons are moving further into our nation, unimpeded>
Ranchers are reporting destruction of the land and killing of their livestock like never before ( most expect some of this but not to the degree it is now)
One Rep spent 1.5 hours in a helo with a DPS trooper and they counted 385 people in that one area coming it.
The DPS people sent down there are taken away from their regular jobs in other parts of the state.
Docs and hospitals are overwhelmed with all the diseases those" right wing bloggers"
rolleyes.gif
are scaring people with.
Border Agents have contracted diseases and the hospitals are worried some of them will spread to general population, Staph is of particular concern.
The Gov of Texas can send the national guard but with no backing from BO there isn't much they can do.

Wendy Davis had a good idea, send immigration judges to the border to hear cases there and without giving people " permiso" to report on 90 days.

Something that might help the rest of the country understand is if enough of these illegals get sent to other places and they can see for themselves the problems.
More people were apprehended in 4.5 months than all of last year. and those are the ones caught who are now in our system and living off us for at least the next 3-5 years.
Border agents haven't had much time to actually apprehend lately.

anyone who thinks this won't be a problem for them has their head stuck in the sand.

Modest and a tactic that most would view as barbaric yet it might just do the trick
and could be said to ultimately save many more from breaking our laws( employers and employees alike) and could end up saving lives.

You should submit it to congress and Bo and see how far it foes.
biggrin.gif

We should NOT be fooled by BO's latest request for 2 Bil to ' fix" the problem.
Congress needs to look behind the curtain and see what exactly BO says he will use the money for
and how much of it will actually go to quicker deportation of the latest influx.

If congress votes for it they should attach restrictions to make sure BO doesn't keep pulling his tricks..
Will they?

Why not take 20 billion from the dept of homeland security budget right now. Give 2 billion for what the Executive Branch is requesting and use the other 18 billion for severance pay for 50% of the Homeland Security department since they are not needed anymore.
