It is a BAD season when.....

TexasPelea

even the wins feel like losses. Seriously, the win over Colorado is kind of like sex with a condom on. Yeah, we got it but it didn't feel good. Let us get something straight.... Colorado is AWFUL. Probably wouldn't an NAIA tournament. We seemingly have the game in hand before once again showing testicles of material softer than wet toilet tissue and buckling down the stretch. This team has to grow some stones. Why is AJ taking shots from mid-court when we have a lead in the final minute? Mason? Seriously? There aren't too many high schoolers who would have thrown up that air ball....

And Damion James..... wow, man.... just wow.

Why are we not getting the most out of our talent? This is unacceptable and these guys should not be given a free pass. If the football team was underachieving like this, Mack would be answering a lot more questions than Barnes currently is.

I'm not willing to give TexasPelea that much credence. He's another fan who fails to join in the conversation until things are going poorly, then vomits his frustrations on the message board. I get that. Shoot, IMO that's part of what BBSes are for. He just doesn't have a whole lot of credibility to me if the only time he's going to come over here is when the team isn't doing so hot.

The comparison to the football program doesn't do a whole lot to buttress his position for me, either.

It really is amazing that people still don't get that hoops and football are not analogous. You can't just say "we're a much better team, and therefore we ought to blow out our opponent no matter where we're playing." Basketball just doesn't work like that. Bad teams can play good teams tough, and often do. I find it funny that when someone offers evidence (OU only beat CU by 5) that this is true, the response is "you're just making excuses".

I don't think people are making excuses for sub-par play. But at the same time I think some people get frustrated and start talking about "repercussions" when they don't really even know what those should be.

The only commonality here is that just like our football fans do, these guys see the team underperform and somehow always reach the conclusion that it's because they just don't care enough. The coaches clearly aren't taking this seriously enough, the kids aren't trying hard enough, and something has to be done.

Conference road wins are never easy - I'll take this one. I think the frustration stems from high expectations and an abundance of potential, but having 2 point guards that shoot less than 54% from the charity stripe is a recipe for disappointment.

Gents:

To whoever said "If the football team was underachieving..."....umm, what do you call losing to KSU and A&M in back to back years??? Those were so AWFUL teams!!!! Losing the TECH in anything is unacceptable, too. We triple their talent.

This team will cause fits in the tourney.

Rick needs to get them shooting FT's non stop. That is one thing that will be a killer come March. All I know is that I still like this team, and with Balbay playing PG more, it more entertaining. If I was a basketball team as a semi-high seed in the tourney, I wouldnt want to play Texas first. I dont think anyone would.

You guys can get upset and discount what I'm saying all you want. Fact is we have a team that was preseason top ten now unranked and in danger of missing the tournament. And yet you look around town and nobody seems to care. This is reflective of our entire program and fans. I'm not going to be one who only gets into basketball when the team is doing well. I think it is sad that we can't even pull 10,000 for home games, but when we are on the road to Final Fours, all of the sudden we can fill all or Reliant Stadium with burnt orange. This program has to show it can get over the hump even when it doesn't have a player of the year candidate. And we shouldn't just sit back and say "we aren't that good" when there isn't a TJ Ford, Durant, Augustin type player on the court. This team has the talent to be top ten. And yet they aren't... not even close. I'm not going to give them a pass on that and if this basketball program is going to get over the hump.... no fan should. So guys like SL Express can sit here and say I'm dumping on them while they are down and they are going to ignore it..... that actually doesn't surprise me. After all, that's what Texas basketball fans have shown themselves to be about.... reminiscent of Aggie football fans if you ask me.

Point is losing does not seem to bother these guys. It is kind of an "aw shucks" attitude that the fans have and it bleeds into the entire program and I haven't really seen Rick Barnes do anything to change it. The lineups for the most part stay the same. There has been no improvement, no significant change of gameplan.

This team's main problem is not FT shooting (although that is one of many problems). There is just a chemistry issue that cannot be addressed quickly. The biggest problem for this team was the early success because it masked the overaching problems. I expect a lot from this basketball team and I get disappointed in them rather easily. But I also appreciate Barnes and all he has done for the program. If that makes me complacent, then so be it.

Team is what it is. Team was over ranked at start of season. They lost alot when DJ left for the NBA, he is one of the best point guards ever at UT. Not a bad season just not a great season, hard to have a great season every year. I think the talent level is down this year but will go up next year.

Im sorry, but this is not a BAD season. This is a mediocre season. There are plenty of teams that would rather be in our shoes.

And this definatley isnt a BAD season when you look at our fashion of losses. We lose by 3-5 points almost in every loss this year. And during that 3 game losing stretch, we lost to 3 teams in the Big 12 who were on the rise IMO. Granted, we shouldnt lose home games, and we were considered the better team in all 3 matchups, losing happends. And how many freakin' half court shots with 1 second left on the shotclock are going to be made against us?!?! That is one thing that you cant blame this team for.

This team came out hot at the beginning of the year, and hit a hard slump in the middle. This is the absolute must-time of the year to pick up the intensity and get our streak going again.

Any time you get a ROAD WIN, you TAKE IT, guys.

That ain't the first conference team CU's played to the wire, guys. They lost to OU by only 5 as mentioned. They were nip and tuck with KU the whole way through (@ KU, lost by 5). They gave KSU fits at home at the start of their six game win streak. They played us tough at home (only lost by 2 and I expect a toughie in the return game in Lincoln).

CU tries hard, they just can't get over the hump. I think Bzdelik has em improving though.

Conference road wins are ALWAYS hard to come by.
