Heard them on 183 this morning.

I think it's impressive to see that many people come together.. I ride a Harley, so maybe I'm biased. However, it seems like a lot of people have a lot of fun out there.

I have heard the same thing about the Rally v. SXSW. I don't know if they mean all 3 events of SXSW though, just the music. There are so many people doubling up in hotels and finding the cheapest ways to get by. That may have something to do with it. The bikers spend a lot of money on a lot of things. They likely bathe which is something many at shows do not after the first day.

Don't have stats but heard this directly from both Mayor Wynn and Councilman Martinez.

I was surprised to hear this as well but apparently, it is true.

I'll be avoiding downtown for the next 3 nights. I don't want to risk catching an airborne STD from a 55 year old leather-faced cougar.

Yeah, but they're not just downtown anymore, and not just at night. They're everywhere. You can't go down MoPac or I35 without being blocked in by a group of 'em taking up 2 lanes and going 55-60 in a 65 on their way to shop at the Domain.

I think SXSW brings in **** tons of cash and is comparable to the entire football season in $ terms.

According to a study conducted several years ago by Angelou Economics, a leading economic development consulting firm, each home game adds an estimated economic impact of $24 million to Austin’s economy, meaning this fall’s six showdowns translates to a total economic impact of $144 million for the 2007 season.

I've been waiting for them. I work right next to Highland Mall and hear the bikes as they are coming in on 35 and checking into the hotels but I haven't heard them yet.

this is the only time that you'll see doctors, lawyers and salesguys treating his WT kin as his equal. get 10-20 of them together and they feel like they are above traffic laws and common courtesy. i guess they own the road. funny, i didn't get that memo.

this is early halloween for these posers. i particularly enjoy the guys who haul their bikes in on trailers. scary bunch those guys.

funny story. going down lamar, these was a wannabe biker guy weaving in and out of traffic. a driver puts a stop to his progress and doesn't let him over. the "biker" starts mouthing off at what an ahole the driver is for not letting him continue being a bigger ahole. i heart this weekend.

Just got home from watching it......

1. The whole 'they are a bunch of lawyers and doctors' argument is total BS. If those folks are lawyers and doctors, they look a lot different than the lawyers and doctors I know.

2. Just a wonderful collection of the diversity of this Great State: Latinos, rednecks, black folk, longhairs, old people, hippies, Aggys, Horns, tatt'ed up folks, weirdos, etc etc etc. All rolling down Congress peacefully and getting a long. Just a great sight.

3. And to repeat another poster's point.....the fact there is a biker rally tonight and the gay pride parade tomorrow just reaffirms what a great town this is. Just a very positive, tolerant vibe in this city. Social conservatives would run for the hills if they saw all this.
