This airs again tonight at 3am CDT. Strongly recommend it for the DVR if you're even remotely into racing of any type, motorcycles, or just a general sports nut.
Really, if you want to see some guys hanging it all out there for glory and not a whole lot else, this is the ticket. They aren't on a relatively safe track. If they lose it on one of the faster sections, which would be much of the 37 mile course, they're pretty much dead. Speeds approching 200 mph on tree-lined roads and thru towns. Sidecar racing, too.
There's at least one onboard camera segment that's 5 + minutes long where my jaw just hung. I could feel it hanging lower and lower. I thought it was gonna hit the floor.
Really amazing stuff. I see now why these guys (and girls, now, I believe) are idolized so.
It's funny. Houston native and Wimberly resident Kevin Scwantz can't walk down any street in Europe without drawing a mob of worshipping admirers, but back here in the states he goes unnoticed.
I met Kevin Schwantz back in England. Must have been 1990 at the Race of Chamipons at Brands Hatch. He was a really nice guy. Was definitely my hero back in the day when I was only into riding bikes. He was not the most successful guy of his era, but holy crap he wrestled that RGV500 around like no one else could. Amazing, rider. All or nothing!!!!!
