Is Will Ferrell the next Adam Sandler?

I saw his new movie trailer (Semi-Pro), and it got me thinking. The following timeframe fits both Will and Adam's careers.

First couple of movies were classics.

Popular catch phrases were born in these movies. "The Price is Wrong, *****!" "You're my boy, blue!"

Eventually, the movies contain humor that starts to look more and more the same. To the point where it's not that funny anymore.

How would I explain Semi-Pro to someone who hasn't heard of it? "Oh, it's another Will Ferrell movie". The next movie put out by Adam Sandler will be the same.

Not necessarily a bad thing, I think Will is still hilarious at times. But his movies aren't having the hilarity that they used to. Or maybe I'm just getting older

You know, it's funny you say that. you could add that both turned to more "serious" roles later in their careers with mixed results. I think most critics liked punch drunk love and reign over me got mixed reviews, as did stranger than fiction.

adam sandler has more money than god. i think the only reason he is still acting/writing/producing is so his group of friends can be on screen and make some money - the same group that is in every one of his movies and no one else's.

kind of like kevin smith and his group.

Sandler at his peak>>>>>>>>>>Will Ferrell at his.

It's not that I don't like or don't think Ferrell is funny, I just don' think he's as talented as Sandler...jmo. However, I'm pretty tired of both at this point.

Taladega Nights was one of the most overrated movies I've ever seen. There was so much potential to make fun of NASCAR and they blew it.

Ferrell has been great in certain movies but now he is DEFINITELY the same character in a different movie and that is boring as ****.

Talladega Nights nearly put me to sleep. Semi-Pro looks horrible.

Will Ferrell was at his best on SNL impersonating George W Bush.

I just hope he's not the next Eddie Murphy.

It may be the same character, but IMO the Ferrell movies are way better than the Sandler ones, and he hasn't resorted to romantic comedy at this point. Blades of Glory was hilarious; I doubt this new one will be very good though.

It really doesn't matter what Eddie Murphy did/has done later on in his career, Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler don't belong in the same sentence as him. He's one of the top 3 or four funniest men ever to live.

Recently, I heard Eddie married a chick and broke up in a week or two. That was pretty funny -- Eddie's still got it!
