An aggy friend's wife is Nebraska fan, and she puts the T before the U. For approximately 12 years of their marriage, he thought he had her saying that as an insult, but until I explained to her, she just thought it was like saying NU, OU or KU.

There's nothing to see here. Move along.

Also, Houston was/is known as UH, not HU.

Arkansas, IIRC, is the University of Arkansas, or UA, not Arkansas University (AU).

Non-public schools typically are Name then University, e.g., Baylor University, Rice University, Texas Christian University, Southern Methodist University.

State schools with direction or State or Tech are frequently Name then University, e.g., Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University, Penn State University, Oklahoma State University, Florida State University, etc.

Usually, the single state named university is The University of .....

e.g., The University of Texas, University of Florida, University of Tennessee, University of Michigan, University of Alabama, University of Illinois, etc.

California's numerous schools seem to fall into two groups --- the "city" schools, e.g., University of California - Berkeley, Los Angeles, etc., and the "state" schools, California State University - Fullerton.

Just my quick 2 cent analysis. I'm sure exceptions abound, but this looks like the norm.

No matter how much it chaps aggy, everybody (except obviously some folks back east.) knows there is only one "The University of Texas" and it's found in the neighborhood of MLK in Austin. That's a "U" and a "T". Otherwise, you're referring to Tulsa University.

Will Shortz comes us with some amazing audio word games on NPR. I believe the program is called The Infinite Mind. The program is not about Shortz, but he is interviewed and provides several puzzles. I can get to thinking I'm pretty smart till I try to outmatch him or the person playing the Shortz' word games.

I have never seen the problem with them using the initials for "The University". It is what we are. They, on the other hand are "eATMe".

What the f--- does the ultra liberal NYT know about college football?

In reply to;

"Everyone from the southwest conference calls us TU"

Uhh, with all due respect, I was around this conference since 1965 and the ONLY college, fan or media type in the old SWC I ever heard call THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS "TU" was from disgusting and lowly Texas agricultural & mechanical aggy.
