seriously, who cares what these people from
iowa think?

pretty sure this is one of the biggest problems with our current political system.

but then we'll be enraptured by handshaking in New Hampshire coffee shops, then backslapping in South Carolina convenience stores, then.....

Wow, looks like Mitt Romey got 8 more votes than Santorum. Of ocurse only 30k voted for each so it isn't very telling. They need to hold all of these primaries on the same day.

Evidently, quite a few care.

What exactly is the "this" you speak of?

I don't have the ultimate answer to the problem but something needs to be done to:

1) lessen the impact that smallish states have on the selection of the President (who is nominated);

2) lessen the impact that the fringe element has on the selection (who is nominated) of the President.

Is a Super Tuesday sort of thing the answer? Maybe. But as it stands now, the candidates must pander to the fringe voters, which is why we have intelligent people like Romney saying such stupid things, and probably why we have people raising their hand for creationism, and why abject political idiots such as Bachmann being taken seriously.

Now, this doesn't explain the mass voter appeal for other political idiots like Sarah Palin.

Lol. Look at who preceded him. And then who the GOP then nominated as Pres and especially VP. Do you really have to ask? I guess so.

How badly does one have to screw up to get a black man with a Muslim sounding name elected? I'll let you answer that for yourself.

The GOP has been their own worst enemy for a long time now. Rove's strategy of pandering to the idiot wing of the religious right may take a few more election cycles to get itself out of the political digestive tract.

I guess Rove is the Left's punching bag these days (and I don't necessarily blame you) but then again he's 2-0 in actual Presidential elections.

Yes, the GOP nominated a poor candidate. Anapolis grad, war veteran, POW survivor and a long time Senator. But compared to a Community Agitator and First Term Senator, really? The problem is we (both sides) just nominate terrible candidates.

Were you unable to read the part about "especially" Sara Palin? Your reading skills are usually better than this.

What's the problem with Iowa? It is about the average size state, is more literate than most of them, doesn't have massive numbers of unemployed, has one big, very good newspaper, the schools are way above average, the crime rate is low. It is majority urban.

Would you rather have Mississippi as the first primary state? Or New York? Or California?

I can think of a lot of places I would rather not have as the first state to caucus or primary.
