Yup, it went from being the back yard to being the back parking lot, so the owners are looking for a new location. Closing where they are in September with the hopes of finding another spot and reopening at some point TBD.
I know somebody associated with the owner and they are indeed going to reopen. They will own all the surrounding property and will ensure close parking and a hill country setting.
The venue will also increase in capacity, which will lure large acts who end up being booked in Selma.
All in all, I was sold, sounds like it will be a great venue.
i don't know if this is good or not. austin is starting to look like plano now and i guess im glad i dont live there anymore to see the downfall. it has been a gradual 20 year process that basically began with the tearing down of mad dog & beans on 24th and the moving of antones off of guadalupe to 6th or 7th or wherever it is now.
both events occurred while i was in school and it has been a steady slow decline since.
Some of us old timers might choose to think that Austin's "decline" began much longer ago than that, general35.
I was lucky enough to see many shows at Charlie's Playhouse, The Victory Bar & Grill, The Armadillo World Headquarters, Soap Creek Saloon and The Vulcan Gas Company, etc.
I look forward to seeing more shows at The Backyard in its new location.
