Is Quan Next Level Special?

I know he had a monster game. But this guy has skills. He's fast (4.4 range), he has great hands, and he can jump. Watching that game yesterday makes me wonder whether or not he could be a pro football player.

Thoughts?

Exactly. If Wes Welker can make it in the NFL, so can Quan Cosby. He just has to be put in the right situation on the right team.

I didn't say he was going to be a 1st day draft pick, but the answer to the question "can Quan make it at the next level?" is yes.

Quan may just need to work on being special at this level. Right now he's a good college WR and nothing more. Certainly not special. If he has 10 more games like he had on Saturday then he may be a first day pick, but as of now he's no more than a situational slot WR and special teams player in the NFL. Although I see a little Hines Ward in him, I wouldn't put my money on him reaching that level in the league. I think it will be difficult for him to excel at the next level, but his toughness and smarts will help him over come alot of his short comings.

I agree with most on here. He'll be a 4th WR and a big special teams contributor. I bet he gets taken in the middle rounds simply b/c of his height and age. He'll be an old rookie.

Quan can make it, but I expect no respect after the combines. He will have to just sign with a team and prove he is worthy after the draft. My guess is that he makes a team though.

he'll play in the NFL.

the biggest 'problem' he'll face is his age. he's 26 now. WRs (outside of superstars) generally don't usually have a breakout until year 3 - he'll be a 30 year old 3rd year WR.

if he were the age of 'traditional' player, and playing like he is, he'd be a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

He is more like Terry Glen. He is small and not amazingly fast, but he runs great routes, gets open, and has flypaper hands. He won't smack down any corners like ward will though.

Hines Ward was a multifaceted Heisman candidate.

Quan doesn't usually have the hands that he showed in the UTEP game. You have to look at the trends, not the exceptions. Look at his separation from the defenders... nearly none. And, as everyone else has pointed out, he doesn't have time on his side to grow once he hits the league.

I love everything he's done while he was here, from his awesome freshman TD against KU to today, but to say he's a 2nd round pick is nuts. This has shades of the "Brandon Mouton to the NBA" thread all over it.

Quan has consistently great hands. Silly comment.

A 26 year old Terry Glenn could beat Cosby in a race running the last ten yards backwards. Hines Ward is 6' 215 pounds and super athletic.

You can't find a comparator as a starting wide receiver in the NFL for Quan Cosby and there's a reason for that.

I love the Quan, but his best chance is to be carried as a 5th receiver who excels at special teams coverage.

i think his age will work for him in this case. he will be physically and mentally more mature than other WR's in the draft. he will get taken by somebody..... but will he get a realistic "shot". who knows.

No, he said "2nd or 3rd rounder." Second day I might see, like 6th-7th round if someone really needs to try out a stocky, 5'10" guy as a 6th receiver.

And the Welker comparisons? Really? Welker set NCAA records at Tech. He also runs a 4.3. He also singlehandedly made teams look silly trying to stop him. Again, it's nice that Quan could do that to UTEP, but until he does it against stiffer competition, it's hard to say Quan comes anywhere near Welker.
