is my turkey O.K. for brining? (Temple sucks)

My bird says "Unbasted, No Artificial Ingredients, Contains up to 6% retained water".

The last one is what kind of concerns me. I THINK I am O.K., since there is no sodium or chemicals added. Then again, this thing was frozen and all briners specify "fresh turkey".

*Temple sucks, since you can not get col **** like Heritage turkeys here.

I am a fan of the Heritage turkeys because they carry more dark meat, hence they are less prone to being dry.

scottsins, are you talking about the city of Temple?
If so I can identify with you on the lack of grocery options here.

Yes I am. The ONLY place decent to shop is the HEB on S. 31st and the loop. I live in West Temple and I have heard rumors of an HEB Plus being built on 2305 across from where the Shipley's is there. I talked to a builder in the area and he confirmed that HEB owns land there, but he didn't sound too sure they would build. I think they would have a fair amount of 'upscale' items @ that store if they would build it.

Temple may indeed suck, but I got my turkey yesterday and it still had FEATHERS!!! And I paid the equivalent of $140 (I'm in the UK). Temple isn't sounding half bad to me right now...

Happy Thanksgiving!!
