Is it time to hire Gary Blair?

Please expand upon 'Wrong'. Maybe it was LaTech that did the most damage; but honestly, when Blair was at SFA he more than held his own against us with less resources. I remember a lot of sweet 16s when he was there.

And as for the 'hole' comment, it seems a bit ad hominem. You can only seem to tolerate the 'kittens and rainbow' comments on the page, but this program is in real trouble. Take a page from Mack, and make the tough changes.

Considering you have but one thing to say, how about sticking to one thread and get it all out of your system there?

This made me laugh because following the logic you've employed in other threads on this forum Blair wouldn't even be the coach of the Ags today, or still have the opportunity to win any Big12 games (vs. the Horns or others). He would be long gone. Like GG he came from another Div 1 school where had considerable success inc a Final 4 appearance, but his first three years at A&M were dismal. He had a combined record of 48-43 with just one NCAA invite (first round loss) compared to 64-35 for GG with three consecutive NCAA appearances.

And since you brought up prior coaching experience I'll point out that Blair has a total of 16 NCAA appearances in 25 years as a HC, the same number as GG in just 18 years (16 consecutive).

Even more telling Blair has made just two Elite Eights in those 26 years inc a single Final Four; Gail has been to the Elite Eight 7 times with 4 Final Fours and 2 Championship game appearances. Their records, both prior to current assisgnments, and their respective first three years in present positions aren't comparable. Or should I say, there just isn't any comparison. And for further emphasis, from a post made eariler this season:

good post, overseas! I am very frustrated with our basketball team this year. But I keep trying to remind myself that Jerritt Elliott at Year 4 had me feeling the exact same way, ready to give up on the program. But in Year 5 he turned the corner and now it's been Final Fours for 3 straight years. I am hoping this year can come to a merciful end and hope next year is the turnaround year.

You're right Tempest, it does take a few years. And even so GG has done far better her first three seasons than her Big12 counterparts; nonetheless a few (who know better but post their comments regardless) insist on comparing our current program to where a few other teams are now, instead of where they were at the same point in their respective coaches tenures. When you compare 'apples to apples' things look a whole lot different. We are bringing in great recruits, have one of the best freshmen in the country right now, and return a top 5 post recruit from injury next season. We are heading in the right direction and are doing things in the right way, with the right staff and right types of players coming on board. I'm looking forward to the years ahead.

What has Blair done at A&M that Gail didn't do at Duke to make you think he'd be a slam-dunk (no pun intended) case to do a better job at transitioning to Texas?
