Is it still cardio if...

Your heart rate is up (due to physical activity) but you're not moving fast? The only examples I can think of are water skiing- you're being still but working your muscles and your heart rate is elevated (assuming one could waterski for 30 minutes)... and types of yoga- you move slowly and are still for minutes at a time, but again, your heart rate is up and down for at least an hour. Thoughts from the exercise experts??

yes. wakeboarding/waterskiing is definitely cardio. although it would probably be more along the lines of HIID.

anyone who thinks that it isn't clearly hasn't done a twenty minute wakeboarding set. in that way it is kind of like kettlebell training. you are getting stronger, but you it is also kicking your *** cardiovascular wise.

i will say that, it also would be considered resistance training. you are definitely working muscle groups to exhaustion.

I know my heart rate is up when I tried wakeboarding...mainly from face planting and gasping for air.

A good resistance workout that is intense and gets your heartbeat racing, for example, is cardio. Try doing a superset of something like a barbell push press followed by weighted pullups and you'll see how your heard can race.

I'm not an exercise expert, but I can certainly think of one other example of this form of "cardio"!

Watching the sites on campus and near campus can certainly raise your heart rate. Is this cardio?
