Is Ed Wade really this stupid?

Is Drayton telling him he can't start selling? Does Ed really think this team has a chance with 3 really good teams in front of them in their own division?

I would have kept Berkman, Lee and Pence. Everyone else should have been made available, IMO.

Drayton is the suck as an owner. He thinks the whole city is stupid and believing that this team is a contender. The Astros have ZERO prospects in the minors. The only way that they will be above .500 next year is if he opens up his wallet and since they are still drawing close to 30,000 a game with this weak team...he owes us. They need pitching BAD. Sheets, and Sabathia are just 2 that will be FAs.
The moves that they are making dont make any sense. Maybe Daryl Morey can be the GM of the Astros too.

From the ESPN trade deadline chat...

Eric(Tyler,TX): Are the astros still trying to make anymore trades? Any idea what they are doing down there?

Jonah Keri: (2:08 PM ET ) Drayton McClane and Ed Wade are doing what any smart team 13 1/2 games out of first would do: Trading away prospects and blowing millions of dollars on mediocre pitchers. Maybe the Astros get a compensation pick for Randy Wolf. Other than that, no idea what they're thinking. That franchise is in bad shape.

Im not a huge stros fan but I go to a lot of games there as they are the closest team to austin. Im really proud of the way that the fans have continued to keep attendance up. It would be hard to find another team with a losing record that draws as well.

Does anybody know if the stros get to keep the $7.50 I am paying for a beer? I always spend more on beer than the damn ticket itself. Maybe they can take that money and buy a pitcher.

F the Cubs and F Wrigley.

Seriously, Ed Wades moves have been average at best. He thinks, and I agree with him, that the Astros have a shot at contending next year, so he doesn't want to sell off the talent and start a 3-5 year rebuilding process. I honestly think that if a GOOD starter is signed, along with another better than average starter, they will be in contention next season. There will be plenty of arms to pick up this winter.
What makes no sense to me is why he went out and got latroy hawkins for a good prospect, then didn't move Valverde for talent. Randy Wolf was a good move, even that waiver from Colorado wasn't bad, but for the life of me don't understand why he sent a Single A all star to NY for a 36 year old reliever who just got sent to the minors.
His moves this winter will determine his fate as the astros GM.
