Is Daytona a suitable honeymoon destination?

Basically, I have two relatives with really nice places on the beach in daytona, and they were mentioned as possibilities for my upcoming (but still way too distant) honeymoon.

1. i've never thought of daytona as "romantic" but more "new jersey of florida" but that's only because of nascar. i have no idea what it's really like.

2. the little lady and i really want a beach where we can relax, but there is still stuff to do (golf/spas would be a big plus).

3. i want it to be beautiful. these pictures (some of them, anyway) should impress my friends on facebook. hah.

thoughts? i can't say i'm enthralled with the idea, but maybe it's nicer than i've pictured in my head. any of you have personal experience with the area?

um, no. you don't want to do your honeymoon in daytona. it's full of cheap hotels/motels, a hard packed beach that cars drive on, and it's generally a cheesefest, not romantic. it's not nicer than you've pictured in your head.

I had a great time there last weekend, but then again, look at my signature.

I've been four times. It's nicer than Port Aransas but I'd say equal to South Padre. There are some nice hotels like the Hilton next to the Convention Center. I've always been in February, so I haven't spent any time on the beach. What else......lots of bikers.......lots of yankee types..........I'd probably go somewhere else (unless you schedule your honeymoon around the Pepsi 400 in July).

If you're wanting to be on the beach I would suggest the West coast. I spent my honeymoon all over, from LA to La Jolla to Seattle and the San Juan Islands. I live in Florida now. Trust me, the west coast just has a better vibe (and smell).
