Is Bibb Falk The Forgotten Man?

Just for shits and giggles -- and knowing that he had a .314 lifetime batting average -- I went to MLB.com to see where Bibb Falk ranked among the all-time leaders in career batting average. The Sortable Player Stats don't show him anywhere except in alphabetical order by name. I tried several catagories (BA, Slugging Percentage, Hits), and his name doesn't appear. He should be tied with Manny Ramirez for BA. This has nothing to do with when he played because players way back to the 1800s show up.

As you can tell from my emoticon, this is an outrage.

So much for the BOMC. MLB needs to experience a good old-fashioned boycott.

There is a very simple and logical explanation for it, although it will probably only further frustrate you. Take a look at the list of MLB career batting numbers, and then look at Falk's career numbers and see if you can figure out the reason why Falk is not included.

It appears there is a 5,000 ab minimum to make that list.

Yeah, he fell a few hundred short in ABs. They cut it off at 5,000 for all the batting percentage catagories. I'm still pissed, but at least I think I'll sleep tonight.
