Is anyone else absolutely embarrassed..?

I'm almost embarrassed of being a longhorn due to our EXTREMELY below-par efforts from our basketball team. Where did our shooting go? Where did our defense and ball-control go? How did get so bad compared to at the beginning of the year when they were seen to have one of the best defenses in the nation? We certainly have talent, but I am not seeing any effort, motivation, or urgency at ALL.

I don't like feeling that the most positive thing thing about our team currently is that our biggest guy is probably the best free-throw shooter on our team..

I am and I blame Barnes. I'll admit I'm not his biggest fan but here it goes.
Who is the point guard on this team?
Who on this team can shoot well consistently?
Who is this teams leader(s)
How is it possible to have 2yr and 3yr starters and not have any of the above questons I asked on your team?

8 assists total this entire game, including a whopping 0 from AJ in 40 minutes. That is pathetic on a lot of levels...

AJ is having the year he deserves in thinking he was NBA ready last year. Right now he isn't even a 2nd round pick. I said this a month ago, but I think our team may be better without him. we would have an offense buiild around James, Johnson and Pittman....and Mason running the point.

I'm not embarassed, and anyone who is should rethink their priorities. That said, this team has problems, and Coach Barnes needs to address them. Maybe one of you could send him a text message.

Personally, given my rather limited skillset as a talent evaluator, I'd probably go with Balbay, Abrams, Johnson, James, and Pittman as much as any other rotation. I don't think Mason has shown enough to warrant time at the point (nor has Abrams, especially given his skills as a shooter), and the other 3 just seem to be the most interested in playing. I'm probably drunk, though.

(Not probably.)

I am not embarrassed. That's ridiculous. We are not a good team right now and we don't have shooters or a point guard. Losing players like Ford, Adridge, Gibson, Durant and Augustine early has caught up with this program. Rick will reload. I trust Rick Barnes. He'll right the ship, just not this year.

I might be embarassed IF i saw this team just quit. But i have not seen that and probably wont with Barnes as coach.
This team just is not good.

I agree that a team full of veterans should be much better. But we have relied on the young superstars (Durant and Augustine) the past few years and the players on the court just dont have leadership qualities nor the ability/potential to become great players.

Its becoming painfully obvious that most of those on the court were overachieving that past few years.

Although im excited about next year.

Nothing to be embarrassed about.

This is not a very talented team and they lack effectiveness at some obvious positions (PG being most glaring). Atchley and Mason have regressed for unknown reasons and Balbay has not turned out to be a very good pick up (that happens when you are trying to fill a gap late in the recruiting game).

This team has lost three straight at home, which is not acceptable, but they are not quitters and they are not getting blown out. The other teams have scholly guys who are making plays at the end. It happens.

This team has to fight through this stumbling streak and figure out how to finish. They can still win some big games and earn at least a 5 seed. I don't see a deep run in the tourney, but that is nothing to be embarrassed about.

I am not sure what the big problem is with the word embarrased when describing this team. With all due respect to Nebraska, we should not lose to them at home, on the road, or on a blacktop in the middle of the desert. Barnes has built a winner and got caught with his pants down by not having a well thought out back up plan if DJ left. Is Jai Lucas the answer? I hope so. Our three stud recruits don't run the point, so he will have to be.

The effort today was embarrasing. For the fans, for the players, and for the school.

Yes, I am embarrassed by this team. I wish people would quit giving them a pass saying "We aren't that good." Oh really? Then why were we preseason top 10? How did we beat UCLA and Villanova? This team DOES have the potential to be good and not only are they not reaching it, but they are embarrassing themselves and the university in the process. Losing three straight to unranked north teams, two of those at home..... is unacceptable and embarrassing for the University of Texas. Each player on that team as well as the coaching staff has to own that. If they were playing good games and getting beat, that's one thing. But to get beat in the fashion we do is embarrassing.

The fact we blow double digit leads and lose games that are tied in the final five minutes I think shows this team has the talent to build leagues that big, but the don't match the hustle and heart of the other teams and that's why the lose those leads.

And there is no excuse for that. Can't wait for this group to graduate.

Embarrassing?

I dunno, folks, let's review.

Embarrassing is flat out quitting. And I might be seeing a different game than you good folks, but I don't see a Texas team that's quitting. I see a team that's trying to find its way without a point guard - against some pretty tough teams from the North (Which, save for OU, is stronger than the South this year).

Embarrassing is 66-3 followed by a 4-7 season.

Embarrassing is what Hill Billy Callahan performed at Nebraska in his years here.

Texas has been in every game with a chance to win sans the first Oklahoma game. That's not something to be ashamed of. I don't think a Texas rebound is a matter of if, but a matter of when.

I gotta agree with TexasPelea on this one. Villanova looks pretty good now. UCLA is no slouch. We went toe-to-toe with michigan state. These are pretty good players but for some reason they have absolutely NO mental toughness. When AJ is hitting, this team can hang with almost anyone. He is going through the worst shooting slump of his career and no one else (except Gary Johnson) appears to want to take a shot. You've got to get Mason off the point and let him play the 3 and get Damion down low if you want to start winning games. We are at our best when Mason is able to roam the floor and make hustle plays and get rebounds (i.e. the KU game last year). I just think we aren't using our personnel very effectively. James looks uncomfortable playing the 3 in college and is losing a lot of many this year trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. He needs to go back to doing what he does best (taking advantage of bigger guys trying to play him as a power forward) and let the rest of the team do what they do best. I think guys playing out of position (mason at point, james at small forward) is what is causing problems for our chemistry. If Abrams is off, JM and DJ aren't comfortable enough with their positions to take it over for him.

I also think it is frustrating that we have to adjust to how mizzou and nebraska are playing rather than making them have to adjust to us. We should be dominating inside but instead, we try to match up small with them rather than make them have to match up with us. We should've stayed with the zone and kept Dex in there abusing their smaller guys. I thought the zone was overall effective. They had to run the shot clock down below 8 almost every possession and ended up settling for 25-footers. Normally, I'd take those shots anyday but for whatever reason, neb started hitting those shots with a hand in their face. They weren't good shots they were taking but they were hitting them at the end. Not every team is going to make those shots on a consistent basis. I just thought we built a nice lead in the first half with our big men abusing their smaller guys but went away from it in the second half.

Anyone that is personally "embarrassed" by the performance of a sports team of which they are a fan is a gigantic loser. More than likely one of those idiotic fans who talk tons of smack when things are good, then can't take the heat when things go the other way.

It is all about bragging rights. I have to go to work with a bunch of OU losers that get bragging rights. First, I had to deal with the BCS and now I have to deal with basketball.

I am embarrassed that we are out of the Big 12 race and now are questionable for the NCAA tournament. I don't think it makes me a loser to feel this way about a school I went to and root for on a regular basis.

You guys need to get off your high horse.
