Is a BMW reliable?

I'm having thoughts of purchasing a used 3 series about 2 years old under 25K miles... How dependable are these cars? Anything less obvious that I should look out for when buying the car?

Yes. I have an E34 5 series. Rock effin solid. what a terrific car.

So far, so good. I have a 2006 5 series with 63K and have had no problems at all.

Check the April 09 issue of Consumer Reports for statistically significant reliability data.

Extremely reliable. If used, make sure it was previously well maintained. I've owned two (older ones) and they were completely faithful.

That's what I hear from friends who drive BMWs. Generally reliable, but be prepared for sticker shock when you need to have scheduled maintenance (brakes, belts, fluids, tune-up, etc.) or repairs done.

i have darn near 500k miles on 4 BMW cars. Yes. they are very reliable. Yes when **** goes bad it is expensive. I have been fortunate that nothing really bad has ever gone wrong on any of mine. My line up consisted of:
1995 318 - gone
1997 540 - gone
2004 330 - gone
2006 X5 4.4 currently still own - 40k and counting

do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES get the run flat tires. I have had 14 flat tires in 3 years on ouir BMW and ZERO with my other cars.
