Irma's in Houston

This place sucks and is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over priced.

The Atlantic Monthly wouldn't know Mexican food if it slapped them.

they have good lemonade, that is it....you never know what you are going to be charged, i once had 4 people eat for under $40.00 and once over $100.00 while ordering basically the same thing. there are no listed prices so you never know what you are going to get. at one time i was a regular and never got charged much for a while.

Man, typical hornfans. Someone posts an article, and the subject proceeds to be trashed. Yes, Irma's really sucks so bad that the James Beard Foundation, who knows nothing about food, has been hoodwinked and hornswaggled into believing it is a good restaurant.

the c**t charged me $113 for 4 enchiladas plates (2 of those just being cheese ladas), 4 ritas, and 2 miller lites.

i like irma's a lot. i don't recall being overcharged but i used to go before the ballpark was opened up and that part of town wasn't so busy.
isn't there a new, more "commercial" location? is that what you all are bitching about?
i thought that old hole in the wall irma's was pretty damn good.

i could have liked Imra's as well, the food was pretty good and the location is great. (I am pretty sure we were at the original location). If she did not blatantly over-charge me just because my friends and I are were not "regulars", I would consider going there most of the time before i go to Minute Maid. But now I hope her place burns down.

utexas,
i can't remember, it's been a while, but what do you mean by being "overcharged"? no prices on the menu?

we were not given menus. there is a giant menu under the cash register that had prices, but there are signs that say "Prices subject to change" or whatever.

i used to go with a mexican guy so maybe he was "in" and just ordered for us. in any case, the food was damn good and i liked the locatoin.
oh well.

we'd split it, i'm sure. we used to o over there when "enron" was under construction and sneak a peak at the progress.

I have to agree with everyone piling on here. Beard missed the boat on this one. Sylvia makes better enchilada's as does Spanish Village (no. 47 Enchiladas a la Taylor). Papacitos makes better fajitas. Hell El Tiempo just totally destroys a place like Irma's in every way imaginable. Honestly it is mediocre food, there is no price list, the lemonade kicks ***, but compared to other offerings in this food segment in this town it about avg on the whole. Not great ever, somtimes good, somtimes it is not so great, it is always quirky, and on the whole it is about avg. I'd rather go to Lopez out on Wilcrest honestly, or even go to the old Don Raki just up the street in North Main than Irma's. Neither of those places would be considered grear either, but both better than Irma's.
