Ipod Touch

Thinking about getting an Ipod Touch for the Wii Fi feature.
How is browing the net on this. Can you view pretty much any website, or is it restricted? What about sites that may have streaming video or audio, will those load properly?
Or is it just good for websites that are text and simple jpgs only?

Also, on the Touch, can you copy mp3s from your computer hard drive to your Touch without using the ITunes software?

An amazing product. I sent this from my new itouch. Have not found a website that couldn't load. Get it.

I have the touch and I love it.

it will not work with any site that uses Flash player, and it will not do streaming video (don't know about audio, but I doubt it). Other wise, you view the internet just like on your cpu...

You also must use iTunes to put music on it.

The Wi Fi can be spotty sometimes. I get kicked off easily, even in places with free Wi Fi access. But it's a minor nusiance as it usually reconnects fairly quickly...

I had two students (English students here in Buenos Aires) who had the 1st Generation iPod Touch back in March/April. I really wanted one. But I don't buy iPods and other wasteful gadgets.

Then the 2nd Gen came out with sound and it was immediately ~ $70 cheaper. I decided to get two around my birthday and then sell one at a markup to help pay for the second.

I now use it all the time to look stuff in my one-on-one classes. I also can pick up service at each subway station, so even though I lose connection between stations, I can surf while I'm waiting for a subway and for ~20 seconds every time we stop. That's long enough to check email or Facebook (another one of my addictions).

I highly recomment the thing. I love it.

PS- I got the 8GB one, because I don't NEED music, like some people, so storage wasn't a problem. And I wanted it to be as thin as possible, so I wanted the slimmest offer.

The 2nd-gen iPod Touch was my first MP3 player. It is awesome. The WiFi is pretty reliable for me, and being able to download music and apps from the iTunes Music Store without being hooked up to a PC is pretty cool. The iPod has actually replaced my laptop for quick browsing tasks (such as checking the weather) around the apartment; it reconnects to WiFi almost as soon as you turn it on, making it faster than my laptop which has to wake from standby, reacquire the wireless, etc.

Its only real downfall in terms of web browsing is the lack of Flash support. Unfortunately, this will rule out a lot of streaming video sites (e.g. Hulu). However, watching videos on YouTube is still possible thanks to the separate YouTube app.

there are workarounds for the streaming video/audio problems through qik, flixwagon, wunder something another and a few more. Some are free and others are 3 or 4 dollars for the download. I have yet to find something that can't be streamed one way or another. It is silly that apple doesn't make it easier since they want to be known as the easy to use machines

I have a iTouch primarily for traveling. The browser is ok for viewing web pages although I prefer my laptop because you have to constantly adjust the text size. It is also a pain to type in posts. I do like the e-mail interface and the games. The music and video features are nice.

So a site such as espn.com, which uses streaming video, would there be a big red X where the video is located, or does the site not dislpay at all?

There is just a black box where the streaming video would be. I really like the Touch and its browser is really cool, but pretending that it is as functional as a laptop or netbook is silly. You can use it to view regular web pages, but unless you have microscopes for eyes you will need to constantly adjust the text size. And what is the problem between Apple and Adobe?
