iPod TOUCH: 1st Gen vs. 2nd Gen

I'm looking at buying an iPod Touch 8GB (2nd Generation) and having a friend bring it down in a couple of weeks. But I'm confused.1) The iPod Touch 8GB (2nd Generation) is $219.94 The Link

...and...

2) The iPod Touch 8GB (1st Generation) is $299.95
The Link

The 2nd Gen Touch has a built-in speaker and a couple of things that the 1st Gen does NOT have. Yet it is US$80 cheaper. Does anyone understand why the 1st Generation hasn't fallen in price?

thanks

That really makes no sense. It must just be the vendor who's selling it. I don't think Apple themselves sell the 1st Gen iPod Touch anymore other than refurbs. Somebody had some inventory and isn't willing to lower the price I'd guess.

Hey, if your friend is local to me I can buy it with a bit of a discount. You have my email.

You didn't ask me but I got the 32G version for the video capacity. I put movies on it to watch when I travel and the 8G is kind of small if you want to put a couple movies on it.

A friend at work has the second generation model and they are similar except it is a bit thinner and has voume control on the side of the device rather than on the touch screen.

So I ordered a couple of iPod Touch 8GB 2nd Gens and if all goes according to plan, then will be arriving in BsAs on Thursday morning thanks to two people flying into town.
They should still be in their boxes and one will soon be up for sale on Mercado Libre

I'm hoping to make about a US$120 profit on that one, so my new 8GB is only ~US$100. (The risk/reward had the best ratio with the 8GB.)... Looking back, since I can only bring down two, maybe I should have gone 32GB with the one I was going to sell. Hmmmm....

Anyway, where do you download FREE video stuff? What kind of stuff is that?

I'm not currently an iPod person, so I see myself mainly using my Touch for surfing the web on the go. Also, I don't like sticking speakers INTO my ears, so I like that the 2nd Gen has a speaker in case you want to get the idea of the sound without going deaf in 5 years.

I realize that good sound blows the crap out of bad sound. You really can't compare them. But I'm used to having nothing (music, perks, money...), so I'll probably not use the white knobs.

And "Re: Battery Life"... what kind of video life does it have?

My mule arrived with my iPod today. Todo bien. Now I have to figure out how to use the thing.

I had an iPod shuffle (the first kind) that someone gave to me once, but I never figured out how to download music to it on my work Mac Mini.

I also had a different music thing that my brother gave me that I managed to figure out.

Now I will try to get this thing to work. Considering my total iTunes library is ~2.6 GB of music, it's not difficult to tell that I'm not a "Music is my LIFE!" kind of person.

Any tips on getting started with the iPod touch?

gracias amigos

Get the latest iTunes if you haven't already, and have it update your album art for any albums that it can.

Since your music won't fill the Touch, I think it will automatically try to synch everything for you when you plug it in.

Have fun.

yeah, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes, then just plug your iPod in and let it do all the work.

It will sync all of your music, videos, and pictures, and update the iPod software (if it needs it) automatically.

Enjoy.

I downloaded the latest iTunes and for the cover art, it only shows 3 album covers. Everything else is blank.

Those three covers are for music that I bought from iTunes. For everything else... nada.

How do I get the photos before I synch my new iPod?

For the cover art, make sure that the info you have for the song (artist, song title, album title, everything), is EXACTLY the way it reads in iTunes.

For example, AC/DC is NOT the same as ac/dc (though I don't think iTunes has AC/DC at all). Guns N Roses is not the same as Guns 'N Roses, etc. Also, Black Crowes and The Black Crowes are not the same. Get it?

Oh, and if iTunes doesn't carry that album, it obviously won't have the artwork...

Once you do that (and it can be quite a long process if you have a lot of music), the album art will update.
