iPod Question

I heard that the new iPods (4th Gen +) will only work with songs that you download through iTunes. I currently have a 3rd Gen but it's starting to act all shady, and only plays for like 45 minutes on a full charge. I thought about purchasing a new one but I heard this and I dont want to spend $300 to buy an iPod that I can't put my current music on. Anybody know anything about this? Have you put music you didn't DL on iTunes onto your 4th Gen iPod? Thanks.

Sounds like a crock to me. iTunes doesn't care where the source was, and I can't imagine that the iPod would go sniffing around for the sources that iTunes used. Likely as not, the iPod just DLs whatever is in iTunes without questioning it.

I have a 4th gen ipod. It will play any song in mp3 format and any song purchased from the iTunes store. So you could burn all your music cds to mp3 , drag it all to iTunes, and transfer it to your iPod.

but i have a 15gig 3rd gen, i bought used which was my first mistake, and its got scratches and its small and yadda yadda ya, ill just give it to my girlfriend probably. i want to get a 20 gig.

can I have it? I got a **** load of wedding and showers to attend the next few months, and I'd like to regift it to an ex of mine that sent me a busch league invite just to con a present out of me.

I've got a 4th gen 40 gb iPod, maybe 15 of my 3000 songs are from Itunes.

if you're interested in getting a new battery in your ipod you can buy a battery for $55 at pdasmart.com or they will install it for you for what they say is a nominal fee, don't know how much the fee is though. something you might look into if you don't want to shell out money for a 4g.

I think I'm going to get a 6 gig mini. I have a 20 gig 2nd generation and I can't really see myself having more than 1,500 songs I actually like and listen to.

I just got an iPod shuffle (1 gig) and tried to upload songs through iTunes and it only let me put 28 songs on there, saying the memory is full. However, looking at it, I've only used about 140 MB's.

Anyone had any issues uploading songs or aware of how to check what's on the iPod?
