Ipod Question - itunes

I have itunes on one of my computer and just downloaded the software for itunes onto another machine. How do I get my songs from the old machine to the new one, or can it be done? I really do not want to have to dowload all this crap again. Shouldn't I just be able to get those songs from one database to the other? Anyone know how to do it? Thanks

I'm facing the same problem as I just got my new computer in yesterday. I think we may have to do the unthinkable.

The easiest way is to simply copy your entire "mymusic" folder from computer A to an external harddrive, and then to computer B. After that, you can use Itunes to locate all the files on Computer B. Authorize Computer B, and you will now have a duplicate on the new computer.

You can use your IPOD as the external device, provided it as enough free space.

I have dones this many times.

How would you use the ipod as an external device. You cannot upload from the ipod to itunes can you?

The best way is to get an external hard drive as mentioned (ie a 120 gig or so). Copy your music folder from your current c drive to the external hard drive. Then just plug the external drive into your new computer. Download I-Tunes and have it draw the songs from your external hard drive. You don't need to copy them again to your new computer (unless you have a laptop and need to take the songs on the computer with you, in which case you will want them on your new c drive). Leaving them on the external drive will save space on your internal drive.

You can use the ipod as a hard drive if you want. You just plug it in to your old computer, let i-tunes start up, go to your i-pod options and make sure "use as a hard drive" is clicked, and then close i-tunes. It will appear as a new drive in "my computer." then you just copy what you want. Do the reverse when you put on new computer and then delete it off your ipod.

i would suggest using ephpod to manage your ipod. my computer crashed a while ago, and ephpod let me copy all of my music from my ipod to my computer.
