iPod docking station stereo

HookEm

Anyone have a recommendation for an iPod docking station for home stereo use? I've seen the Bose unit, but it's a little pricey. Any thoughts?

Do you have to dock it? I've got the Monster cables that I plug into my stereo receiver and Ipod (headphone jack). The sound is great and it only cost $30 (much cheaper than the Bose option although not as portable).

Just a thought.

I plug into my home theatre via a "Y" cable and I also have the donut shaped Bose unit by the bed. the donut shaped thing kicks ***, great for road trips (hotels, rentals, etc)

Buying a cable to hook it to your stereo set is probably the bes bet.

If you're really wanting a speaker set to go with it, the best i've personally heard and one of the nicest is the Klipsch set:
Klipsch iFi

You'd have to search around a bit to find it cuz you usually can't get them straight from klipsch, but they're amazing.

You gotta be kidding me. 400 bucks for an $30 Ipod dock and a $100 set of computer speakers? Klipsch is really pushing the limits of brand recognition.

You can probably find a RCA to 1/8" jack at Radio Shack for around 7-8 bucks. That'll work for hooking up your Ipod to your home stereo.

If you don't want to use your home stereo, then a Ipod dock coupled with a reasonable set of computer speakers will work fine. Something like these.

For high end, an Ipod dock and something like these will be better than the Bose unit for the same price, though not as compact.

Klipsch: $400. Logitech + dock: $140. I'd say there's a major difference in price there. In almost all reviews Logitech's have been on even ground with or better than Klipschs, except for the ProMedia Ultras, which have no Logitech equivalent. And every computer speaker set suffers from heavy bass boost around 40-50 hz, not just Logitechs.

The Klipschs Promedia Ultra are not bad speakers, but nowhere near home audio quality and are fairly poor speakers for the price. In their price range, you can buy an Onkyo 6.1 ($320) set that would absolutely murder them. Or a decent pair of studio monitors if you cared more about accuracy than pounding bass.

Of course, for accuracy and response, a decent pair of headphones and a headphone amp would murder everything in this price range.

Ags:
1st: yes, major price difference (tho i'd show the klipsch ipod set at 350 as that seems to be average finding price) but the quality really is superior to logitech 2.1's, or even 4.1's (i'd give logitech the benefit of the doubt with their 5500's or whatever the nice 5.1 set they have now is) and not "every computer speaker set suffers from heavy bass boost around 40-50hz", just most do. A good friend of mine has klipsch 2.1's (which would be a better deal if you also bought a dock as they're the same quality, almost, to the ifi set) and it can reproduce bass way more accurately then any logitech set i've ever heard. Also, creative gigahertz speakers have no trouble with accurate lows.

secondly:
note-IM and many many others O, klipsch promedia ultras simply have no PC equivalent, not simply logitech.

and granted, you could get a very nice home theatre set for the price of klipsch ultras...but we're talking computer/mp3 player audio here and in that category they're the best. (and i might add that they beat the **** out of $100-200 studio monitors for close range listening...of course they can't compete at greater distance as they're built specifically for short range)

Yes, a nice pair of headphones and an amp would beat anything else mentioned, granted
