does anyone know if I can use the songs on my ipod as ringtones on my iphone?  if not, how do I get rock and roll (or other) songs as ringtones on my iphone.  I have looked for an app that would have these but cannot find one.  thanks.

There are apps that make ringtones from recording it. You could play the song from your computer, record it, and then turn it into a ringtone. I haven't found an app that's awesome at it, but there are some...

what sucks is to make it in iTunes, it has to be a song that you purchased in iTunes not one that you imported.

what is the app called that you can record?

I use the "Ringdroid" app to do this and it is awesome. Simple to use and it lays out on your phone. No need to use your computer to chop it up. You can scan the entire song and use just the part you want.

I am sure it is on the iphone too. I got it out of the Android Market for the G1 which is open platform.

you can create a ringtone from any song on itunes, not just ones you purchased.

select whatever song you want, right click it to bring up more options and select 'get info.' under the options tab in that window you can edit the length of the song- the ringtone cannot be more than 30 seconds- as well as the starting point. you then have to create an AAC version of this (in the import settings make sure AAC is the selected format. right click and select 'create aac version'). drag the AAC version to your desktop. it should have an extension of .m4a - change it to .m4r as this is the extention of all iphone ringtones. delete the original .m4a version from itunes, double click the .m4r file on your desktop and it will open in a ringtones folder in itunes.

Great link!

Iphones suck. Apple sucks. ITunes sucks. Stop being such a trendy loser and get with the program and cut the cord between you and Steve Jobs. If I want the program seen in this link, I should be able to put it on my phone. I don't need some NetNanny telling me that that app is not appropriate for my phone, that app is the single greatest thing I've ever seen.

The iPhone may be the most proprietary device in the history of man. I am going to buy a Pinetrail based, linux running one in a year and laugh at all of the stuff that I can do that iPhones can't.
