iPhone question

First off- forgive my ignorance. I'm not really into gadgets. But I just won an iPhone in my morning sales meeting, and I have a question about service. I'm with T-Mobile, not AT&T, but there's a place a block from my office that will unlock it for $60. My question is about internet service. If I want to have round-the-clock internet service, am I going to have to get a new plan from T-Mobile?

Anyone have an iPhone with T-Mobile service?

you will need to purchase an edge data plan from tmobile. one thing to note: the instant voicemail feature isnt going to function.

You can unlock it yourself pretty easily if you do a google search. My roommate unlocked his in like 20 minutes and is using it with t-mobile now.

Ok, this unlocking thing fascinates me. A few questions.

1. how hard is it to unlock an iphone for a technically challenged individual?

2. Once unlocked, can I make it work with Verizon?

3. Aren't the newer iphones equipped with software that prevents one from unlocking it?

My company is locked into Verizon and limits our choice of cell phones. I'd like to get an iphone if i can make it work on Verizon. Thanks.
