iPhone Calendar ( Outlook)

So I bought myself the iPhone in December as a gift to myself and the one thing that is annoying is that if I want to get things from my work calendar to my iPhone calendar I have to send a meeting notice and accept it on my home computer and then sync my iPhone. I absolutely do not want to sync the iPhone to my work computer but I would like a way to easily accept calendar invites on the iPhone llike i've done on all my other smart phones.

Has anyone figured out how to do this?

Just so I have this straight:

work Exchange server----->work computer----->home computer----->iPhone?

Is your work Exchange server set up properly in your iPhone? When I accept a notification on my work computer, my iPhone syncs the meeting/appointment. I'd check that first.

Select "Settings" then select "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" then select the Exchange account you set up. Make sure you have "Calendars" set to "On" or else they won't sync. I think the default is to sync e-mail only if you didn't go through the entire set-up process.

If that's set up correctly, in "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" select "Fetch New Data" and make sure that you've set "Push" to "On" and set Fetch for however often you want your iPhone to check the Exchange server (mine is "Every 15 Minutes").

If it still doesn't work, then could you give me more details?

ACuriae is right -- you need to have Exchange ActiveSync enabled for it to push email, calendar and contacts to your iPhone. Check with your Exchange admin. It works perfectly if this is enabled. Otherwise, I'm not sure but the Apple Support suggestion is the best place to start.

I use my MacBook Pro for work, and run Entourage 2008 as my Outlook replacement. I finally figured out a way to make my Entourage calendar sync to iCal on my Mac, and then I have iCal sync to a Google Calendar which pushes it to my iPhone. It works.

Starting point for Google Sync info: www.google.com/sync/mac.html

I can't remember it all off the top of my head as I had to do a bit of Googling to figure it out, but you first go into Entourage Preferences and under Sync Services you select to Synchronize Entourage Calendar with iCal (I also selected to sync with my Address Book). This will create a new iCal Calendar called Entourage, and everything that happens in the Entourage Calendar should propagate over to that one.

I'll assume you have a Google Calendar created already.

I then set up a new iCal Calendar to sync over to Google, although I don't recall how I got this to talk to the Entourage calendar. More details here as this is where I found much of the info:

Google Calendar & iPhone sync info here:
www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=22681

I hope that helps, sorry I don't recall all the details but I had to do a bit of fiddling around. There might have been a couple of other sites I used as a reference, but these should be easily enough located with a couple of searches.

Anyway, it seems to work pretty well but there are a few limitations such as editing calendar items on the iPhone, but really I'm happy just to get things pushed down to the device. I understand that I can use OS X's native Mail app (under Snow Leopard) to connect to Exchange (and this might even provide an easier path to iPhone syncing), but I've become accustomed to Entourage and it's a pretty decent client so I haven't tried the Exchange setup through Mail just yet. I should test that out.

Good luck, drop me a PM if I can help further.

the issue is that the iPhone is personal and not (and never will) be used for work thus it is not connected to an exchange server. After reading the apple forum this is the down fall to the calendar use on an iPhone. If you aren't connected to an exchange server you end up having to do an end around. Oh well I'll live with this issue.

Sorry, Roger. I didn't catch that part that you didn't want to connect to your work's Exchange server. Dionysus is right about icalx.

One suggestion I'd make is creating an additional calendar in iCal for the stuff you want to move over to your iPhone and publishing that calendar to icalx instead of your entire Entourage work calendar.

After Entourage syncs with iCal, right click on the meeting, event, appointment, etc., click "Duplicate" then right click the duplicate event and change it to the calendar you created for your iPhone. Otherwise, you'll get all of your work calendar items on your iPhone. It's a couple of extra clicks, but it makes sure that you're sending your iPhone the information you want to send it.

BTW, Dionysus, thanks for the instructions on syncing through Google. It took me a little while, but I got it to work.
