I have invented a type of visor that I think may be something I can sell as a promotional product aimed at beer distributors, and all sorts of outdoor events. The Design is so simple it would be very easy to copy. For a comparison think about the original thinner neoprene Koozie, and now all the copy cats based on the same original design.
What's the best way to protect my design and concept? Never seen anything like it, and it's a "dual purpose" product that would lend itself very well to advertising. I am starting to look around for fabricators to produce it for me, but am presently at the mock up stage trying to finalize the design. And adjust it to minimize the costs to take advantage of production, material and converting capabilities.
The simplicity of the design should make my price point low enough to make a healthy profit on the sales, and there is a fairly good possibility that we could get this into Walmart with the contacts we have. That of course would be the double edged sword as inventory carrying costs could be enormous, before we would see a dime of return. It's a summertime product so if I don;t act now it's another year. In honesty it may already be too late for 2008 for anyhting but a test market production year.
Haven't named the product and looking at possible website domain names and basic marketing infrastructure needs. I have heard that it's best to make some sales while you submit the patent information, so that you show commercial use of the product. Have tried to find something similar but haven't with a fair amount of research so I don;t think my design would infringe on anyone else's patents (that I could find).
Anyhow seems like there were some intellectual property folks around that could give me some insight, or tell me "Whatever you do, don't do _______!
thanks in advance
