Internet Speed Issues

Okay, I currently have internet service through a small town phone/dsl provider. I pay for the "up to" 4 MB service. However, through this service I can't even watch a YouTube video or other streaming video (espn.com, nfl.com, hulu, etc.) without the video buffering every 15 seconds or so. At 4 MBps shouldn't I expect to be able to watch a crappy quality YouTube video without constant buffering? I would think so...

So, I called the dsl company and their tech guy said my modem is syncing at every bit of the 4 MBps. My dsl modem is also a wireless router so I always connect wireless.

Any ideas on why this could be happening? When I use my same laptop at work I don't experience the same issues so I don't think it's my computer.

Thanks!

Could there be any firewalls or spyware programs that you just installed that are interfering with your connection?

run a speed test..

speedtest.net if it's not what you expect it to be, and terribly bad, then call the company and tell them you need someone to come out and look at the system.

The only major thing I've installed is a torrent/fileshare application called Vuze, but I always make sure it's not running unless I'm actually downloading something.

Guess I should probably run a spyware detector program or something.

Have you tried rebooting your router? Vuze/Azureus is known to fill up some router's NAT tables and slow things down .
