washpark, ironically this link he couldn't escape from came through AOL IM from someone he didn't and does not know. I'm learning a lot about who can access my kids if the IM filters aren't set properly.
Damn, all I could do was search the neighborhood with my friends hoping one of our dads had a Playboy we could look at. These kids can happen on demented **** that we never knew existed.
As someone that uses AOL at home, I can tell you those parental controls work very well. Too well sometimes, they will lock out some pretty innocuous sites, but the nice thing is your kid can request a site be unlocked. You get a chance to go check out the site before you let your kid (or whoever) see it.
It just requires that someone be the main administrator, just use a secure password for your login and you'll be set.
As for removing the spyware and God-knows-what that are on your computer now...
It's sad to have to be "Big Brother," but these days, it seems to be necessary, even with good kids!Get a good parental monitoring program. I used to use WinGuardian, by Webroot, (kids finally grown and on their own now!) but I believe they no longer make that one. I've heard good things about Guardian Monitor -- Guardian Software -- or you can search for WinGuardian, NetNanny, etc. They are still available as shareware downloads.
Good luck!
