Internet Explorer Issues

So about 10 minutes ago, I tried to start IE, clicked on the icon, and instead of opening, the "error report" box came up. You know, that box that asks you to send or don't send an error report. The program never even opened at all.

I ran all my virus/spyware detectors, and they found some stuff, I deleted it all, restarted, and still nothing. I even went through add/remove programs, and tried to remove my IE so somehow I could replace it. Didn't work.

Finally, I went thru system restore, and luckily for some reason I had a checkpoint yesterday, so I restored to yesterday and now all is well.

But for how long?

Does anyone know what happened, or if it'll happen again? I could always restore it again, but don't really want to. It's never screwed up like this on me before, so I'm looking for answers.

Thanks in advance to anyone who knows anything about it.

Sorry I don't have any specific insight on your ie problems, but I have a solution. Firefox. Since I switched, all of the problems I had with ie are history (lock-ups, pop-ups, spyware, etc.)

Firefox

Yeah. I also went through my start menu, and then even through my yahoo mail alert box. Like I said, it's working now, but only due to the restore.

I might just get firefox.

getting firefox will solve some of your problems, but not all. explorer is integrated into the operating system more deeply than just internet functionality (e.g. exploring files/folders on your computer). if i were you, i would try to re-create the error. for instance, did you install any software in the past 24 hours, especially internet-related software such as firewalls? it's possible that a driver got corrupted or replaced with the wrong version.

Well, yeah, I'd get Firefox as well. I though all you LA types were cutting edge and all.

You'll still need IE for certain sites and other things, and since it is integrated it would be a ***** to remove anyway.

Eventually the virus writers will turn their efforts to Firefox, but until then it is absolutely the way to go.

Let me tell you about the greatness of tabs ...
