International Driver's License

Am going to the Greek Islands for my honeymoon in July, and the travel books all recommend renting a car for island travel.

In Greece, an International Driver's license is required, along with your regular one. I think it's only $15 for one - but wonder how hard, or how long it takes to get one.

Anybody been through this process before?

It's very easy.

Go to a AAA center (If you are in Austin, I know there is definitely one up on 183, close to Spicewood Springs).

Take 2 passport size photos, or you can get them to take the pictures there.

Fill out a form, bring your drivers license and possibly a 2nd piece of ID.

It takes about 15 minutes and they give you the international driving license there on the spot.

huh. good to know about greece - i rented a car (legitimately) and went driving around italy and sweden about a month ago with no problem.

Beware of the driving test. They make you drink a bottle of Ouzo and eat a Gyro while attempting to parallel park.

I got one years ago at AAA too. I dont remember if I took a test or not but it was easy to get the license. I later used the license when I got to drive 150+ MPH on the autobahn. Farfignugen!!!

have never purchased an international driver license. No one ever asks to see it when i have rented cars out of the country.

But, if you are the "safer than sorry" type, 15 bucks is not a bad investment.
