I think we'll be pushing people around up front (again)

a new face (he's kinda big):

I like it. Sweat could emerge as a monster this year. If seems as if he has embraced a leadership role.

Murthy is very solid, and arguably has been our best IDL.

Then there’s Collins, who most believe has the most upside, if/when he applies himself. Will this be the year he breaks out?

It’s a strong unit. The issue is on the edge. Aside from Sorrells, there is uncertainty. Perhaps the portal (after the spring) will be kind to us.

Our DL is going to make some serious leaps this year. What we lose in Snacks Coburn, we gain through committee with Murphy, Mitchell, and Broughton. Collins is versatile enough to play either DE position. Bledsoe has been moving around as well.

Sweat will probably go down in history from "the most famous safety not called a safety in the history of college football," and use it to channel his determination this year.

I really think we're fine at the buck and edge positions with a rotation of Sorrell, Vasek, Finkley, and Tapp. It'll be kind of what Herman was attempting to accomplish years ago, but we finally have the personnel.

I'm a lot more concerned about our LB depth and how the freshmen will basically supplant everyone not named Ford.

I dunno about that. I bet Murphy, Mitchell and Broughton can eat more snacks than Coburn.

I also hope we can find some guys that can generate a pass rush.

Depth is everywhere. Our 2nd string this year is better than our 1st string last year in many positions.

Been hearing good reports on our dline.
Collins, Bledsoe and Burke are emerging to go with Sweat, Sorrels and Murphy. I really believe this is going to be a disruptive play-making defense. I think our defense is going to be stout because our secondary is top notch also with Catalon, Thompson, barron and Brooks.
Lots of battle-tested, experienced players.
We'll see what coach K will do with these guys. He has all the needed pieces in place. No excuses.
I am almost tempted to say that the defense may show better than the offense. And that is saying something, and very different than our past two seasons.
Yeah I am excited and am drinking tons of kool-aid.
in fact, I am really close to being giddy.
Somebody slap me please before I bet the house.

The defense supposedly won the 2 Fall scrimmages.

DL - Blasts from the past (w/ comparisons to current players):

I. Disruptive force; freakishly quick for his size, spends lots of time in opponents' backfield----
Sweat

II. Immensely strong, to the point of being unblockable. Humiliates weak OLs. A man among boys. Dominates the line off scrimmage----

I hope Ross heals up from what ails him, and gets back in the DL rotation soon. He's done well. Ross was carted off the field in the 3rd Q vs. Wyoming.

By the way, about this previously maligned (by some) S&C Coach we've got...

He may be pretty good...

Update - Ross will be out around 3-4 weeks. No surgery is needed. (Elbow)

(cross-posted with Coach PK thread)

2024 Interior DTs with next year's class ("2-Techniques")

Returnees:
Murphy Sr. (could go pro after this year)
Broughton Sr. (coming into his own this year)
Bryant So. (?; has the requisite physical attributes)
Bledsoe So. (quick and disruptive)
Ross So. (quick and disruptive)
Swanson So. (quick; former big DE; tweener)
Sydir Mitchell So. or RS Fr. (a very large guy; quite athletic for his size; hurdled a player; man-child type; a New Jersey guy)

Incoming Recruits:
D'Antre Robinson (big, strong, athletic, quick; 4 stars from Florida; heavily pursued)
Alex January (very big and tall, way too quick for his size, a Longhorn legacy)
Melvin Hills (277 lb DE; probably a DT next year; Louisiana guy; athletic)

I could see all 3 of our incoming DT recruits getting playing time next year, maybe quite a bit for some of them. Sydir Mitchell may become the next all-everything interior DT. He had an injury in Fall camp, but nothing career-threatening.
