interesting: rock star's hobbies

link doesn't seem to work, try this

I'm really surprised Bruce Dickinson (yes, the Bruce Dickinson) didn't make the list. Other than fronting Iron Maiden, he is active in fencing (competes internationally and owns a fencing company), writing children books, professionally flying (flies for a UK company and flew a bunch of refugees to the UK from Lebanon), and scriptwriting.

And of course, fictionally being the producer for Blue Oyster Cults cowbell heavy Don't Fear the Reaper track on SNL.

Jeff "Skunk" Baxter-guitarist for Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers parlayed an interest in music recording technology into a self-taught missile defense consultant.

Tom Scholz of Boston is one smart guy too. IIRC, he has a Masters from MIT in EE and invented several sound processors that were used in recording and in guitar sound technology. I don't know if he still is involved with that anymore. Back in his heyday, he worked for Kodak during the day, and then at night played gigs with 'Boston'.

I remember reading that about Tom Scholz long ago. I think he built a studio in his house where they recorded the first Boston album, which had layers of sound and was just a brilliant piece of audio engineering.

I heard "More Than a Feeling" the other day and I mentioned to my wife that, after 30+ years, Boston still sounds fresh to me.

I forgot Lars Ulrich has an interesting side hobby of being a douche bag going after his own fans because he doesn't feel he has enough money.

I didn't know that about Steve Vai. My 13 yo son can already play a lot of his music including "For the love of God". The Link
I would not have been able to play this back in my best days ( age 30 or so). Thanks for the link.

Sterling Morrison got his PhD from Texas in Medieval Studies and later became a tugboat captain in the Houston Ship Channel.

Technically not a hobby, but this was the first thing that came to my mind.
