Interesting comments by the coaches

Here are some comments by Greg Davis;

A. Fozzy Whittaker looks like Hodges Mitchell in running style.

B. Vondrell McGee looks like Cedric Bensen with that "slasher style".

C. Brandon Collins, Malcolm Williams and James Kirkendoll make up some of the youngest WR corps since BJ, Sloan and Roy. And they look very good.

Will Muschamp;

A. We are moving guys around all over the place. Repeated that comment several times. Personally I like that. This shows that he will take a guys raw talent and put it a position where it will get the most results and production.

B. He reiterated that he main focus is to "get the best eleven on the field".

One of the best things that came out of last season IMHO is when MB reamed the entire team out at the OSU game in Stillwater. He began to realize that guys get complacent when they think their job as a starter is fixed and secure, and start taking plays off. That new attitude combined with his "no tolerance" to off the field tomfoolery, is the basis in his newfound coaching "moxie". He has weeded out the idea that UT is only a "stepping stone" to the NFL and replaced it with a demand for excellence and hardware that get you to the NFL.

I am convinced Mack Brown will be a college football legend before he leaves "the forty acres". THE MAN HAS GOT IT TOGETHER AND WILL DEMONSTRATE IT WITH ANOTHER TITLE VERY SOON.

I LOVE THIS COACHING STAFF

I do like it that Mack can see his past mistakes and will do what it takes to correct them to make this team the best it can be. Some coaches aren't so humble.

Nothing Mack says in the offseason is interesting until it proves to be true in the fall. Given the disappointing finishes to the last two years, it's clear that he hasn't yet shown that he can learn from his mistakes.

He has a lot to prove before he goes down as a legend.

I'd say given everything that happened, the actual finish of this past season was quite nice. We smacked around another BCS conference team and then held a panty raid at Auburn.

Mack Brown:

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

Did Derry really only have 9 reps at the recent Texas pro day? How the heck was he a starting LB for a major Div 1 program being that weak? Sr or not that is total BS and is something I think the coaching staff should answer for some way even though I guess they can't/won't.

Best 11 on the field indeed. Maybe Muschamp will be different.

Nice comments to hear but it'll be nicer when I see it on the field. It was so frustrating to see guys like Derry and Killabrew not make plays when Norton and Muck were all over the place and producing.

This kind of change in coaching mentality is what has been needing. If the players got complacent it was b/c the coaches got complacent. Since the 05 championship there have been way too many off field incidents and on field lapses. The fire wasn't there, and now it is back. Great to see and can't wait until the start of the season!

Championships usually bring a somewhat more relaxed atmosphere, it's the nature of the beast. Unfortunately this year, we had a few too many take advantage of the situation.
It happened in the 60's and 70's. Ask some of the former players from that era. Results on the field would inevitably suffer, and the wrath of Royal would once again demand that everyone attend early breakfast, etc.

I doubt that Mack will back down from these ultimatums. Of course, we only need wait until September to see the answer. The question of the hour, "If the changes are implemented, and the young guys screw up or not
, will everyone on this thread be happy?

Hook 'em!

I completely agree with baoklhorn about the staff and Mack. I can't think of any more that Mack could have done since the A&M game to make this a better team.

He brought youth to the staff and made a hard change on the defensive staff. He's toughened his approach with the players, and they are eating it up. He's learned new tricks, and the tricks he can't learn, he leaves to the assistants.

In short, amen.

"B. He reiterated that he main focus is to "get the best eleven on the field""

Muschamp may have said this in his introductory press conference in Jan., but it is very encouraging to hear it again... especially after last season. This defense is gonna be fun to watch - BOOM!

Always good to hear the coaches comments like this in the spring, but the bottom line is what happens in the fall on the field.

What I'm hearing out of spring training sits very well. I would love it if the staff put our players in a very whizzed-off humor, and they take it out on everybody we play this fall.

In that same interview GD said that Dan Buckner is "going to be a good player, and he's seeing things, but he's seeing things in a speed he's not used to." Seems like he most likely won't be the big deep-threat solution we have been looking for next year. Here's to hoping that he gets comfortable in time for the season next year.

The pantie raid at Auburn comment moved me far more than anything GD said (or probably will ever say).

That's seriously f'n hilarious.
