Interesting article about Dre

I know, we've all moved on and we have some amazing talent coming in soon and it'll probably not be a concern that we lost Dre.
But I found this that shows how close Texas came to getting Dre when almost everyone said that there was no competition and that Bama was way in the lead and Texas has no chance.
Shows how sometimes rumors can be completely unfounded....
Sorry if its already been posted and sorry for putting up an article from the NYTimes

That was a little creepy to me what the Alabama coach said.

This is a decision the recruit should make for what is best for him.

I actually didnt notice it was written by him.
I agree the guy is an ******* and completely devoid of any integrity or journalistic ethics.

I pulled up the article and went to get some water. I came back, hit page down and went to the top of the article. I did not even notice where it was from when I realized it was not a Rivals or recruiting service I recognized. I got into it and thought it was a pretty shifty piece for no obvious reasoin, just slimy. Then I went to the top and saw Thayer Evans.

Wow, even not knowing he wrote a piece it stuck out as amateur. What a bag.

Simulating a game like situation (Alabama's star DB - Dre makes the game ending interception) or introducing a player (as one of the university's -here comes Dre - the star DB of the crimson tide ...) on the fields through the loud speaker, giving them a jersey with their name on it - not allowed.

I know its old news, but I've never really understood how the coach telling him, "it affects other people", made the difference. I mean, even DK doesn't know what it meant and it does come across as slimy and just plain stupid.

I mean, hey Dre, Texas has basically become DB U, that'll make you millions AND affect your family.

evans just had to throw in the part about "cleat chasers." i guess he's trying to add validity to his story about that kid that committed to ou. (can't even remember his name) we aren't ever going to get kids from sec land. it just ain't going to happen. there's too much $tuff involved. it's no different than us telling kids the benefits fo staying home. if they want to leave, then you have to ask yourself what are they trying to get away from?

While we're on the subject of slimy, any possibility the old lady at the gas station was planted there as a follow-up to Williams' warning?

Also, Thayer Evans is a turd!

Some of that is probably journalistic huffing but what is disturbing is that comment by the assistant coach - sort of like maybe it was a threat. If so it needs to be checked out.

I don't really believe it was close between us and Alabama. If you remember we were right on this web site when news was that he was going to Alabama about a week before he actually announced. Once again Hornfans was right on.

Bill, I think you are right on. To me, we finished a DISTANT second to Alabama. I had heard all along the deciding factor was Dre's young son and being close to him. The rest of this New York Times drivel is just that, drivel.

Thayer Evans is the very definition of a biased writer. He's a complete joke at this point, and I refuse to read any more of his articles. The guy should move from the NYT over to The National Inquirer with his sensationalistic reporting...

I'm surprised that the Bryan-College Station Beagle hasn't already hired Evans. Him and that fishwrap newspaper were made for each other.

Gadsden City High School

Is his High School and the NCAA was all over the place just 2-3 Mondays ago..

Cars, money, etc.....

From the Sporting News:

Rumors are everywhere concerning the NCAA and Gadsden City High School. They started last year with Jerrell Harris and have continued until today. I have seen pieces and parts of the rumors discussed every day on this forum, but I am going to try to recap what is being heard here.

1. NCAA has either already met with or has requested to meet with a coach at Gadsden City High School. His initials are (OS).

2. Three REC members in Gadsden have been accused of paying or providing cars (Dodge Chargers) to players in exchange for them committing to Alabama. One person is a Gadsden lawyer (RM), one is a Gadsden surgeon
(BD) and the third is a Gadsden business man (DC). At least one of these men is said to REALLY be worried about this being made public.

3. There are tapes of at least one car being given to a kid. Research shows that one of the cars was bought and sold four times in a short period of time before is was given to the kid.

4. A private investigator was hired after Harris committed to Alabama last year. This investigator is who is turning the info over to the NCAA.

5. Two of the cars given have been taken away from the kids.

6. The three men mentioned above are accused of funneling the money through the coach mentioned above. This coach also has a new Ford truck.

7. The offensive lineman that switched his commitment to Ole Miss after Fluker committed to Bama is said to have receive $20,000 from these men and then they tried to get it back after he switched his commitment.

It comes form a blog that sporting news picked up on.

This blog has been confirmed by a number of teachers at the High School, that is the part about the NCAA coming to the school.

Auburn is the one that turned Bama in last year on this and Hoover High School.

Hoover is the High School with the Grade fixing sandal?

Both of these High Schools are Alabama feeder schools.
