I cannot think of a less intuitive task than installing programs on OS X.
My girlfriend has an iBook (required for her education major) and I recently gave her a Gmail invite. However, Gmail doesn't work with IE for Macs, and she couldn't get the latest version of Safari without paying out the *** for OS X 10.3 (I think she has 10.2.8 or whatever). So, I had to resort to Firefox, because I refuse to download Netscape on any computer I don't have a death wish for.
So I download the archive, unzip the disk image (why is that extra step necessary?), double-click it, and then double-click the Firefox icon. The install process begins, and then the system rattles away uselessly for a couple of minutes before the Firefox icon starts bouncing in the taskbar. Then it disappears, and reappears, and disappears, etc etc. I had to reset the computer to get it to stop. Thinking it was just a problem with the Firefox installer, I tried installing a few other programs and got the same result.
What the hell? Why can't there be one simple step (e.g. run a ******* .exe file)? The only reason I can imagine is that zipping a disk image of the instlaler makes the download smaller, but jeezus, the OS X installer is already twice the size of the Windows installer.
I hate Macs.
