Installing Mac OsX panther

I currently run Mac OsX vs. 10.2, and just recently bought panther. I have never installed a new op. system, and I was wanting some tips or advice. Also, stupid question, will all of my files and application settings remain the same? Thanks in advance for any help.

EVERYTHING will be the same including icons on your desktop. Its incredibly painless. Just stick the CD in and follow the directions and dont worry.

Lord knows you do, bash.

Thanks lnghrnfan. I will install it when I get home. I just hope it has the newest version of Safari on it, version 1.3

Be sure to run the software update after you install panther. You most likey do not have the latest version of all the iApps and 10.3. (CD was prolly pressed months ago).

Isn't Tiger out in the horizon? Mac OS X is awesome, I cannot believe that I feel more at home in a Mac than in a windows PC.

I just installed OS X, and it it is CHERRY!

I'm clueless when it comes to Macs. Are OS X updates free? Is it similar to upgrading your kernel/apps in linux, or are you required to purchase an upgrade package?

Only minor updates (like 10.2 to 10.2.1 or something like that) are free. To go from 10.n to 10.m (m > n), you gotta pay up. I think that's pretty ******* stupid if you ask me.
