Installing another phone jack

I've got a bedroom that I'm using as an office -- and I need a phone jack in it. I know it's fairly easy to wire myself, the problem is I'd have to run the line clean around the house, and I'm afraid I'll screw something up. Does anyone know of any Bell retirees, or other folks that might advertise in the phone book or something who can install a new jack? I'd rather shoot myself than call SBC and pay $200 or something for it. Thanks.

If you're lucky there might already be a set of wires there. Most homes built within the last 30 years (I made that # up) are wired with cables that have 4 wires. Only 2 are needed for each line. Assuming you only have 1 line now, 2 wires would be used and 2 wires would be unused. So basically the phone company would just have to come out and hook those 2 up to a new line.

I think he just wants another jack, not another line (correct?) I would just split it off the jack in another room, and run the wire along the wall, or under the carpet. There are also things where you can make a new phone jack by using the electric outlets. The plugs have to be on the same circuit I think. Maybe not.

If you do not want a seperate line but just a jack to plug into in that room then you can go to any electrics store and get an add a phone for about 65 plus tax plug it in to the plug and plug in you phone line to the base and you have the jack in that room
