Installing 2nd Hard Drive

I know this comes up fairly often but I didn't see it in the search I did so here goes....

I want to replace my second drive on my computer. I would like to buy a 100+ GB or something larger than the 8GB I have in there now. My question is this....are there any restrictions on putting in a slave drive that is bigger than the master drive? The master drive is a 30GB.

Thanks for the input in advance.

No, no problems with that. You'll probably have to set the jumpers to slave on the new hard drive, but that's about it.

Something to consider is a USB/network drive. Portability can be very nice. I like to take it places and copy someone's entire MP3 collection. I think I paid $90 for 100 gig about a year or so ago.

adding to 7titles, you don't necessarily need to pay more for a usb/ext drive. it's convenient and sometimes it's as cheap, but you could always just get a plain old hdd and stick a case on it.

then again, that's what 7titles could've been talking about.

I second the bios comment. But I think the normal cut off on most old systems was something like 10 or 20GB so since you have a 30GB in there, you probably won't have a problem. Even if you do, it is something that can be taken care of without spending a whole lot of time. It doesn't matter if your slave drive is bigger than your master drive. Many people configure there systems like that - install programs, etc. to drive C (normally the master) and save all their files to the secondary drive for fragmentation reasons. Some will even partition their single drive for this reason. Which if you are only working with 38GB now and buy a drive that is big enough, you might want to just run one partitioned drive anyway. Most Sony laptops come configured this why and it is never a bad idea to start your system back up from scratch as there is always **** that get put in the registry from old programs etc that you can never seem to get rid of without wiping the thing out.
