Infrared gas grill

all grills cook via infrared

My pops has one, even on the lowest setting it is hot as $hit and burns the heck out of everything....I like charcoal and stick to it...

I have the Char-Broil TEC grill (1/3 of cooking surface is IR burner). I love it. I sear steaks at 650 - 800 degrees, or reduce the temperature and put soaked wood chips on the glass surface to smoke up my indirect grilling.

I have had mixed results and need more practice. One second you have a nice seared crust, the next second you have shoe leather. You really have to babysit the meat.

I actually time it when I am searing the meat- no more than one minute per side when at full temp (takes about 10 - 15 minutes to heat up fully). I might continue to use that burner for indirect cooking afterwards, at a reduced temperature.

it is excellent for cooking thick steaks or veal chops or sausage. takes only a few minutes but you have to watch it and flip regularly. it sears in the juices for steaks, much better than a regular grill.

I used it to make a fat filet the other night and it worked nicely. I was worried about leaving it on too long since it's so hot so it was almost too rare (but that's kind of hard to do with me so I thought it was great). Any tips for doing burgers on there? Is it even possible?
