Infiniti G35 Sedan vs. Acura TSX/TL

After spending $1500 this weekend on repairs to my jeep (I was over warranty by only 7000 miles), I'm looking into these cars. Anybody have any advice on them or better yet own one?

I had an Acura CL for a while. Great car. I recommend Acuras to EVERYONE...

Really tired - i'll post more tomorrow.

TL or TSX. TL if your looking for more power and bluetooth options. The TSX has a 4-cyl, but it can still move and has more of a sporty feel than the TL. Acura makes great cars. I think Car and Driver has both the TL and TSX in their top 10 sedan list. Test drive all 3, see which you feel best in.

Another vote for the TL. We have an '03 TL-S, and it is a great car. We had been pretty much a Nissan family, but when it came time for the next car, hubby liked the Acura more than the Infiniti. I think the Acuras hold their resale value a bit more, but to me that is not of much consequence, since I think we will keep this one until it falls apart. I recently inherited it, when hubby got an MDX, and I love driving it. The trip to Kerrville last weekend just seemed to zip by!

As the proud owner of an 05 TL, get the TL. The more I drive this care the more I like it. Such a smooth car. Just enough gadgets to entertain but not as many as say the GS 300. Plenty of room in the back as well. Ive put 6 footers back there with no complaints. Trunk fits clubs no problem and a full size cooler. One complaint was the lack of color combo choices. Oh and the neon blue instrumentation is a little punky for my tastes but it works. I ended up with a black car with camel interior. I don't know if this is true but apparently Acura makes a limited number of TL's and therefore a certain number per state. He said Texas only gets 8000 TL's per year. I've seen maybe 8 TL's in in 4 months. And not one exactly like mine. Turning radius isnt great compared to the 5 series but for 20k less ill manage a 3 pt turn or two. And 280 hp is 280 hp. The automatice sequential shift is fine. Oh and like the poster above we are going to turn our explorer in, in a year or two and most likely weill get an MDX, weve been that impressed. Btw thats a horrible photo.

I have a 2004 silver TSX and love it- I don't want to drive anything else. It is just sporty enough, just practical enough, and the interior is its greatest selling point - extremely comfortable, very cool looking (I have black leather with titanium), lots of awesome standard features (heated seats, sunroof, 6 cd in dash, etc). I've got about 20,000 miles on it and have not had a single problem (except I scratched a little paint off the back bumper by being careless with a suitcase

).
I love the way it drives - it is very smooth and I think it has great pickup (especially compared to my old Audi A4, which seemed to take ages to get going even when I was flooring it). It's a little dangerous because I could be driving along at 85mph and not even notice! When I test drove cars (and I test drove a million), I thought the TSX wasn't the coolest looking, but the second I got behind the wheel I was sold.

I rented the Infinity over the long holiday weekend, talk about a fun car to drive. lots of get up and go. really liked it, if was buying one I would go for the sport package and get the better suspension, go figure Hertz had all the nice leather, Sirius, sunroof, but not the sporty stuff.

I bought a TL a few months ago and really like it. I had a 2002 530 and prefer the TL to it, although I miss RWD. I like the exterior look of the G35 a little better but the TL interior is much better and the TL is a bit cheaper, I believe. I haven't been in a G35 since it first came out but it seemed to have more plastic on the inside and the infiniti clock on the dashboard bugs the crap out of me for some reason. I agree that the blue is a bit cheesy but I like the TSX but the TL feels a lot more solid to me, is certainly quicker and much more backseat room.

Another '04 TL owner. I've owned it for nearly two years and could not reccomend it more highly. No rattles and everything works wondefully. Hard to imagine a better value in this market.

I have not driven the Infiniti, but can reccomend the TL.

infiniti looks better on the outside but is terrible looking (a/k/a typical nissan-looking) on the inside. RWD is much nicer, but all in all, I'd go with the Honda (Acura).

I’m pretty sure that the TL is about 2k more than the G35. At least that’s the way it seems to me pricing them online. Also the TL has always been the higher rated of the two on the sites I have been checking out. But both come highly recommended.

I drove up to Austin last week and bought a new TL with the Navigation option. Very nice.

The G35 only looks good in the coupe. The TL's interior is much better.

02 TL here. Looks like it's brand new still, really quick off the line.

Only drawback = premium gasoline. You will notice diminished performance with regular, and it's not recommended by Acura.

As I understand it you probably won't really notice any knocking or pinging (unless it's really crappy gas) but what happens is the ECM pulls back the timing when the knock sensors go off.....which does in fact lead to a decrease in engine performance.

Every high compression engine I've ever seen recommends premium gas (91 octane or better) with the exception of Honda.

As an aside, my wife's 2005 Odyssey has the 3.5L vtech and the owner's manual states that regular gas (87 octane) is acceptable. We've used that grade for the past 5 months but haven't gotten anywhere near the rated MPG for city or highway. I've started to wonder if in fact the ECM isn't pulling back the timing due to the lower octane, so I'm planing to use premium for the next couple of fillups to see if it makes a difference.

I own a '02 RSX and Smurfette owns a 04 TSX. Both great cars. We test drove a G35 and while it's a great car, we didn't feel it was a much of a bargain for the price. The TSX is a ******* steal for what you get. i can only imagine how nice the TL is.

I have a G35 like the one you have pictured. You can read my comments on that other thread that was linked earlier in this thread.

I might move up to the M at some point. From the brochure, it looks sweet!

I would get the Infiniti G35 over the TL. Both are real nice cars, but for the price you can't beat the G35. It's a hair faster than the TL, looks better, and is 2-3k less than the TL. I like the TL's still, as a good friend of mine has one. But I'd go with the G35.

Do you want FWD or RWD? Do you take corner's at the limit to know what the difference is? Torque-steer anyone?

Here's my 6MT/A-Spec...If you like interior looks, exterior looks, Navi, and bluetooth don't buy the G!

I'm looking to replace my commuter. I test drove the g35 and the tl this weekend. I was really really impressed with the tl. the only drawback is that it is apparently really difficult to find one with a manual transmission. may have to wait until the '06s come out (anyone know when that will be?) or maybe luck out and find a used one here in texas.

I'm test driving the bmw 330 next, should I even bother and just stick with the tl?

Ok, so I test drove the TSX and the G35 this weekend and I was very impressed by both cars. However, I must say that the G35 sold me. All, I can say it was an absolute blast to drive. I will probably get the coupe since I'm not married and don't have any kids. I figure I'll have plenty of time in the future to get a 4 door sedan.

So when do the '06 TLs come out?

I'm waiting for all the new car buying hermit crabs to leave their perfectly good '04 TLs for shiny new shells. Then I can scurry my little crab *** into their '04 model at a better price.
